The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between satisfaction of mother's employment and children's social development.
The objects of this study were 420 children and their mothers live in jung lang gu, Seoul.
As a research method, Researcher used Korean behavior science research institute's questionnaire (1978) for survey children's social development, and, I used Jansonrhk martin(1982)'s tool and Martini(1980) and Bienat's questionnaire for survey mother's satisfaction.
The research problem is as below;
1. Are there any differences between whether mother's employment or non employment and children's social development?
2. Are there any differences between mother's factor (satisfied level, income level, Academic achievement) and children's social development?
3. Are there any difference between work or life satisfaction and children's social development?
The major findings and conclusions of this study are summarized as follows;
First, the interaction, curiosity, and social development of the infants of the employed mothers were more improved positively than those of the infants of the mothers who had changed their occupation. However, the motivation for the achievement, internal control, and sense of comfort of the former were not affected. It seems that the employment of the mothers affects, the social development of the infants in some degree.
Secondly, since the social development of the infants does not indicate any progress according to the satisfaction for the lives and work by the employed mothers, it is evident that the satisfaction for the work by them does not affect the progress of the social development of their children. Although the mothers who are satisfied with their lives and work can be regarded as being able to take care of their children better with more composure because of the less sense of burden and stress they feel toward their work, there are less mothers who chose their employment not for the sake of realization of selves and own desires but of the economical requirement in the aspect of the characteristics of the area of the study targeted by this researcher. Therefore, the result above can be interpreted as having come out of such circumstances. When we look at such result, it seems that the parental education is required more badly in this area than any other areas.
Thirdly, whereas, the higher the education of the mothers are, the more the internal control, sense of comfort, motivation for the achievement, curiosity, and sociability of the infants developed positively, the dependability on the teachers and interaction were not affected.
Fourth, although, in case the works of the mothers are those of management and office, the dependability on the teachers, interaction, sense of comfort, motivation for the achievement, and so forth developed more positively than those of mere labor, the development of the entire sociability were not affected. This can be interpreted that, since there were more cases of mere labor or self-management jobs than those of professional, such result ensued.
Fifth, the more income the mothers received, the more negative the internal control of the children appeared. In case where the incomes of the mothers were in the range of 300-800 thousand won, the internal control among the socializations of the children developed positively. Since the occupations of the mothers of higher income were mostly composed of the mothers of small scale self-management occupations instead of those of professional, it can be translated that, the higher income the mothers received, more negative the internal control of the children developed by mothers' solving the demand of their children right away instead of spending their short time they missed with their children by exercising positive method such as interaction with their children.
Sixth, although the static interaction relationship appeared between interaction and motivation for the achievement among the satisfaction for the work and socialization of the children, the sense of comfort and sociability did not indicate any significant difference statistically. And even between satisfaction for the living and sociability, the significant difference did not appear statistically.
