This study has been aimed to analyze the contents of the service of the nurses in outpatients before and after the introduction of outpatient OCS in order to have the result of the study provided for the alterantive plan for effective nurse service and for basis materials for the management of nurse human resources.
Collection of the materials has been done from Apr. 23, 2001 through Apr. 27, 2001, and 58 nurses serving in 12 outpatients section in one university hospital have been the objects of the study and the trained observers investigated and observed the service of the nurses in every 15 minutes by using the observation checkbook for outpatients nurse service.
The followings are the conclusion of this study ;
1) In the service of outpatients the nurse showed as spending most of their time for outpatients compared to treatment nurse or communication service like assistant nurse. This is because the duty of the nurse and the assistant nurse has been conducted without any clear discrimination in outpatients service.
2) Nurse in the outpatients service showed as spending more time for the activities of assisting the treatment and examiantion related with examiantion and treatment tather than independent nurses service.
3) After the establishment of OCS there disappeared the duty of executing medical prescription slip making the nurses predict that there might be the reduction of outpatients service which however has not been changed by showing the reduction of treatment nurse and communication rather.
The above conclusion teaches us that the proper service contents according to the occupation shall be planned through the study on analyzing the service of the nurse and assistant nurse working in outpatients section and we should evaluate the effect of OCS introduction through the study on quality and quantity change of the service of the nurse after the introduction of OCS.
