배경음악이 과제 수행에 미치는 영향

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 배경음악(background music)이 인지적 과정 수행에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 것으로 배경음악은 장르별로 나누고, 인지적 과제는 언어적인 부분과·수학적인 부분으로 나누어 음악의 쟝르에 따라 각 과제에 어떤 영향을 미치는가를 밝히고자 하였다.
본 연구의 피험자는 여자 대학생 146명으로, 통제집단, 한국민요 집단, 서양 고전음악 집단, 대중가요 집단에 각각 배정되었다.
배경음악의 곡 선정은 각 쟝르별로 대중에게 가장 친숙하다고 인정되는 곡들로 하였으며, 인지적 과제는 코리안 테스팅 쎈타에서 발행되는 "일반 지능 검사 대학교용 A형"을 사용하였다. 배경음악의 한 쟝르마다 어휘적용 과제, 언어추리 과제, 수열추리 과제, 도형추리 과제가 제시되어, 쟝르별로 과제에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다.
자료 처리는 인지적 과제 네 종류를 네 가지의 종속 변인으로 하여, 4회에 걸친 1원 변량 분석(completely randomized design)으로 결과 처리 되어졌다.
본 연구에서 밝혀진 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 배경음악을 사용하지 않은 때에 비해, 대중가요를 배경음악으로 사용했을 때에, 어휘적용 과제의 수행에는 더욱 방해가 됨을 보였다. 또한, 한국민요나 서양 고전음악보다는 대중가요를 배경음악로 사용할 때에도 어휘적용 과제의 수행에는 방해가 된다는 결과가 밝혀졌다.
둘째, 언어추리 과제의 수행에는 통제 집단과 실험 집단간에 유의한 차가 나타나지 않았다. 다만, 실험 집단간에 유의한 차를 보였는데(p<.05), 대중가요보다는 서양 고전음악을 배경음악으로 사용한 경우에, 언어추리 과제의 수행에 촉진을 보인다는 점이 밝혀졌다.
셋째, 수열추리 과제는 배경음악이 없는 경우보다는 서양 고전음악을 사용한 경우에 그 수행이 더 잘되었으며, 배경음악으로서 대중가요보다는 서양 고전음악이 유의하게(p<.05) 수행을 촉진시켰다.
넷째, 도형추리 과제에서도 배경음악이 없는 경우보다는 한국민요를 배경음악으로 사용한 경우, 유의하게(p〈.05) 높은 결과를 나타내었다. 또한, 배경음악으로서 대중가요보다는 한국민요가 도형추리 과제 수행에 유의하게(p<.05) 높은 결과를 보였다.
이러한 연구 결과들은 배경음악의 쟝르별, 그리고 인지적 과제의 종류별로 배경음악의 영향이 다르다는 맥락으로 논의되어지며, 또한 그 이유에 대해서도 논의된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to examine the influence that background music exert on cognitive task. Background music distinguished into genre and cognitive task classified into verbal part and mathematical part, so tried to make clear how musical genre have influence on each task.
For this study, 146 subjects(college woman) participated in this experiment and assign them to control group. Korean folk music group, western classical music group and popular music group.
Background music selection is based on the most familiar music to the masses and for cognitive task, "General Intelligence Test ('A' type for college student)", published in Korean Testing Center, is used. Word usage task, verbal reasoning task, numerical reasoning task, and figure reasoning task are suggested to every background music genre and tested the influence that each genre exert on task.
Data process has accomplished by four times of one way ANOVA(completely randomized design) that is based on four different cognitive tasks regard as four dependent variables.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, word usage task performasce was more interfering when popular music was used rather than no background music. Also there was interfered at word usage task performasce when popular music was used for background music instead of Korean folk music and western classical music.
Second, there was no significant difference between control group and experimental group in case of verbal reasoning task performance. Only experimental group showed significant difference(p< .05) and verbal reasoning task performance showed facilitation when western classical music was used for background instead of popular music.
Third, numerical reasoning task executed well when western classical background music was used rather than no background music. For background music, western classical music facilitate the performance significantly(p<. 05) than popular music.
Fourth, figure reasoning task also showed significant result(p< .05) when Korean folk music was used rather than no background music. And Korean folk music showed more significant result(p<. 05) than popular music for background music.
These results were disscussed that the influence was different according to the background music genre and cognitive tasks and that the reason, too.
