The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of musical activity on social and emotional development of infant. The subject are 20 P Kindergarten students of all day long class who are 4~5 years old infants, randomly assigned ten students(5 boys and 5 girls) as study group and ten students(7 boys and 3 girls) as control group. Musical activities of total 16 times was executed between July 16th, 2001 and August 10th, 2001 to study group 5 students each 4 times a week and control group played freely during the musical activity was executed to the study group. Unity scale was calculated after each class teacher and assistant teacher investigate infants activity in the daily life objectively using social and emotional development standard revised by E. H., Lee and K. S., Lee(1983) before and after musical activity.
Musical activity was significantly influenced to infants social and emotional development as result of study(p<.001). Study group was significantly influenced compare to control group in subordinate area, which is independence on teacher(p<.001), interaction with the similar age(p<.001), sense of security(p<.001), motivation of accomplishment (p<.01), and curiosity area(p<.01). There was not significantly difference in inner control area (p>.05), but experiment group showed much more advancement compare to control group. As a conclusion, this result demonstrates that musical activity influence affirmatively to infants social and emotional development.
