인터넷 커뮤니케이션의 특성에 관한 연구 : 미디어 발달을 중심으로

Media itself is the method of communication by nature. The communication is indispensable for mankind because it has been a primitive nature of mankind. In the earlier times, mankind communicated with mere gestures. Spoken language was used ever after, followed by writing and printing media. Then man began to communicate each other with the electronic media such as radios and televisions. The evolution of media could be interpreted as the changes of communication phases. After digital media has appeared, mankind faced a new communication era that they have never been able to experience before.
Therefore, communication was born right after the appearance of mankind and has been going through human history. It, also, is widely known that it achieved great changes and developments ever since. The terminology, ‘digital’ has become a socio-cultural phenomenon that characterizes human lifestyle in the 21st century. No individual can live without the social environment where many components are being digitalized. Digital technology has produced fundamental changes to human life than anything else in history. Thus, digital media that stem from digital technology followed naturally.
Internet has, in fact, the leading role of the new communication phases. Internet has made it possible to overcome the communication barriers of the existing media and has given mankind the unlimited world of communication. Mankind has become able to make a virtual communication that was thought to be impossible in the real world due to the limits of time and space. Internet also improves the importance of the bi-way communication. In addition, internet enables users to be in a fantastic stage which has no border between producers and consumers respectively.
Writing and printing media appeals only to the visual organ, and acoustic media needs only the hearing organ. However, internet makes use of the multiple senses of human being by utilizing the multimedia, and it works for restoring the human sense.
Moreover, internet is making the environment where the face-to-face communication is, more likely, to be possible than any other present communication media. The various aspect of internet communications newly broadens and widens the human thought, life and behavior, and makes people find a new world.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

미디어는 커뮤니케이션의 수단을 말하는 것으로, 인간은 본성인 사회성을 가지고 있어서 인간에게 커뮤니케이션은 필수적이었다. 최초의 인류는 손짓, 몸짓으로 의사소통을 했으며, 음성언어가 형성되자 음성을 통해서, 뒤이어 문자, 인쇄미디어를 거쳐 라디오나 텔레비전 같은 전자미디어를 통해서 커뮤니케이션 해왔다. 미디어의 진화는 곧 커뮤니케이션 양상의 변화를 의미한다. 그리고 디지털 미디어가 등장하자 인류는 기존 미디어로 경험할 수 없었던 새로운 커뮤니케이션 시대를 맞이하게 된다.
커뮤니케이션은 인류의 출현과 동시에 태어나서 인류의 역사와 함께하였고, 미디어의 발전과 더불어 지속적으로 변화하고 발전해 왔다. 그리고 21세기에 들어서 ‘디지털(digital)’이라는 용어는 인간 삶의 양식을 특징짓는 하나의 사회문화적 현상으로 자리를 잡아감으로써 어느 누구도 개개인의 사회적 환경을 구성하는 많은 부분들이 ‘디지털화’되는 현상을 결코 피해 갈 수는 없게 되었다. 디지털 기술은 인류 역사상 존재한 어떤 테크놀로지보다도 가장 빠른 속도로 그리고 광범위하게 우리의 삶에 직접적인 영향을 미쳤으며 디지털 미디어를 탄생시켰다.
인터넷은 디지털 미디어의 대표적인 주자로서 기존 미디어들의 커뮤니케이션의 범위를 초월해 인간에게 커뮤니케이션의 무한한 확장을 가져다 주었다. 시간과 공간의 한계로 인해 불가능한 것으로 여겨졌던 상상 속의 의사소통행위가 가능해졌고, 양방향성이 강조되고, 생산자와 수용자의 구분이 사라질 정도로 이용자의 능동성이 보장된다. 인간의 감각 가운데 시각만을 이용하였던 문자 또는 인쇄미디어나 청각만을 이용한 음성미디어가 감각의 분리와 이성의 강조를 요구했던 것에 반해, 인터넷은 멀티미디어를 구현함으로써 인간의 복합감각의 사용으로 감성의 회복을 도모하고 있다. 또한 인터넷은 기존의 매스미디어들보다 면 대 면 상황의 대인커뮤니케이션에 가장 가까운 커뮤니케이션 환경을 만들어 가고 있다. 인터넷 커뮤니케이션의 이러한 측면들은 인간의 일상행위와 생각에 변화를 가져와 인간의 존재를 새롭게 인식하도록 만들어 가고 있는 것이다.
