The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of the methods to enhance infant's musicality in Korean classics from traditional children's songs by applying Kodaly teaching method in order to search for the education of Korean classics in kindergarten. The methods was to compare the infants who were educated by integrating various musical activities (such as singing traditional children's songs, playing musical rhythm, creating melody and playing musical instruments), and the infants who were only taught singing traditional songs.
The subjects of this study were 50 five-year-old infants at the kindergarten in Y-gun, Kongsangbook-do from Oct. 24, to Dec. 21, 2000. They were divided into two groups- experimental group who participated in the activities and comparative group who didn't participate. The research was carried out by total 15 programs for 7 weeks and 21 times after pre-test, and later post-test was performed to analyze the results. The research instrument was Korean Musicality Development Evaluation Table developed by Kim, jung-soon(1998) in order to measure the musicality of Korean music and to examine pre-test and post-test.
The results of this study were as follows; First, Kodaly teaching method improved the infant's listening ability of Korean music, body gestures following the music, handling ability of musical instruments, and creativity. In other words, the above method of teaching traditional children's song provided the broad range of opportunities to feel and acquire systematic musical experience through the infants' various musical activities.
My suggestion from this study was that the Korean music education program through traditional children's song should be developed in order to activate in kindergarten through step-tests and systematic experiments.
