The purpose of this study was to examine the effect that Korean traditional group games(Yut-nori, Biseok-chigi, Gonu-nori, Tooho-nori) have an influence on subvariable of prosocial behavior of young children. and to discover the cognitive value of the traditional group games and to offer the basic teaching materials so that the traditional group games may be effectively used for the young children,
For the above purpose of study, the following question were examined :
1. What effects will the traditional group games have on the prosocial behavior of young children?
1-1. What effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of pro social behavior which is ability of individual emotion-control of young children?
1-2. What effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of prosocial behavior which is ability of relation-formed with colleagues?
1-3. What effects will the traditional group games have on the subvariable of pro social behavior which is ability of adaptation of kindergarten?
The object of the study was a child of five enrolled in a kindergarten in Chungsong.
The children were equally divided into two groups: Twenty six children for the experimental group and twenty six children for the controlled group.
As research tools, this dissertation is employed.
The prosocial behavior Rating Scale, developed E · M · Cinnis and A · P · Goldstein(1990) and the Korean traditional group games used in the experiment were Yut-nori, Biseok-chigi, Gonu-nori, Tooho-nori developed by Ministry of Education(1993).
The differences between the experiment group and control group, before and after the event has been T -tested to verify the research problem.
The results of this study were as follows.
1. The traditional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the prosocial behavior.
2. The traditional group games have been shown as having a significant influence on ability of individual emotion-control which is a subfactor of pro social behavior.
3. The traditional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the ability of relation-formed with colleagues which is a subfactor of pro social behavior.
4. The tradtional group games have been shown as having a positive influence on the ability of adaptation of kindergarden which is a subfactor of prosocial behavior.
