The purpose of this paper is to study the relationship between increase of visual perception ability and letter education of serious cerebral palsied children, and detail purposes are as follows;
First, to study the effect of visual perception program on increase of each region of visual perception ability.
Second, to study the effect of word reading education on letter education of serious cerebral palsied children.
Third, to study the relation between visual perception ability and letter education of serious cerebral palsied children.
As for the method of this study, among the cerebral palsied children in middle school level, a boy and a girl in B school for the physical handicapped, in Daegu, were chosen, who were not learned letters, and as for prior test, individual visual perception development level was assessed through development test of visual perception(DTVP).
On the basis of it, visual training program was done from first half to last half, sequently, for one hours for three days in every week, and only visual perception training program was adapted for first one month for their feeling for interest and accomplishment, and later writing training was done which was devised in SamYuk Rehabilitation School, and letter education and visual perception training program were done at the same time with word reading education of Dae Gyu Lee(1998) with first semester of first grade of elementary school textbook.
For post assessment, DTVP and development degree of letter education was assessed through basic education function test of Gyeong Suk Park et. al(1987).
As to treat the data, I compared anterior and posterior relation by scoring by myself with original score for each region by score table and regional score for visual perception development specialty, and it was calculated by comparing original scores for each question for basic learning function level.
And the result was gotten as follows;
First, visual perception training is effective in coordinate region of figure-ground(FG) perception and visual-motor(VM) perception of serious cerebral palsied children.
Second, word reading education is effective for letter learning for them.
Third, there is significant relation between their visual perception ability and letter learning.
For later study, I'd like to suggest as follows;
First, the region of this study should be expanded to kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and high school, and the effect should be revealed as their school grade.
Second, number of object children should be expanded, so as to study the specialty of letter learning according to their handicapped region.
