      This study was carried out to find out the effects of folk dance on the improvement in adaptive behaviors of the mentally retarded.
      The aims of this study are to discover what kinds of improvements we can get after applying folk dance to adaptive behaviors, and after applying folk dance to the sub fields such as independence function, phycsical growth, pre-occupational activity, self-care, responsibility and socialization.
      The subjects of this study are 20 who are attending in the special middle and highschool students. I assessed them using part I of Korean Adaption Version in K- ABS. After study I got the following conclusions:
      First; the experimental group has much more improvement in adaptive behaviors than the comparing group after applying folk dance program.
      Second; the improvement in adaptive behaviors of the experimental group which received folk dance program is very excellent in the fields such as independence function, especially pre-occupational activity, self-care, responsibility, socialization.
      I want to propose that folk dance should be involved into the IEP as one of useful methods to be helpful in the learning of mentally retarded students.
