The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of group art therapy program in reducing adolescents' learned helplessness.
The subjects were 13 at M middle school in C city.
Among them, 6 were placed in the experimental group and 7 in the control group.
The experimental group was treated by researcher who leads art activities and the discussion but the control group did not receive any training at all. To form this study, the group art therapy program was carried out 3 sessions a week. Each session being allocated 60 minutes.
Instruments of measurement in this study were used Learned Helplessness scale by Shin, Ki Myung(1990) and qualitative analysis.
M(mean), SD(standard deviation) and T-test using Spss/pc+ program were employed to analyze data collected by Learned Helplessness scale.
Also this study was performed qualitative analysis to know adolescents' learned helplessness.
The results of the research were as follows;
First, Learned Helplessness scale in the experimental group was significantly reduced than that of the control group.
Second, group members' learned helplessness were definitely reduced through the group art therapy process. Third, the most change area among sub-areas of learned helplessness was proved lack of display.
From this result, it is suggested that group art therapy is effective in reduction of adolescents' learned helplessness.
