《동문유해》의 한국어 어휘 연구 = (A) Study on the Korean Vocabulary of DONGMUN YUHAE

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Dongmun yuhae that was published by Hyeon Munhang in 1748 is a wordbook of Chinese, Korean and Manchu vocabulary. It draws Chinese head word into comparison with a Korean character and a Manchu character. And, it contains vocabularies to the number of 4800. So, it is a good material for research on the modern Korean vocabulary. At the same time, it is invaluable because it is the first modern Korean literature and the oldest book on Manchu language published in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to explain the meanings of the Korean vocabularies which are not explained correctly in the Dongmun yuhae by using the meaning of the Manchu explained in the Hancheong Mun-gam.
As the result of this study, we could find the meanings of vocabularies to the number of 94.
Total number of words which we cannot find in the Middle Korean dictionary is 75: the Sino-Korean words are 47 and the Korean native words are 28. The words which are recorded in different transcription form are included into the Korean native words.
The words which explained in author's study are as follows ;

Total number of words which are not explained correctly in the Middle Korean dictionary is 19: a Korean native words are 17 and the Sino-Korean words are 2.
The words which explained in author's study are as follows ;
'갓동옷, 긔수치 아니타, 녹난하다, 더수기, <생략>, 몌차다, 마이, 버슴하다, 번만하다, 산장이, 사망, 안심치 아니타, 어긔롭다, 夷滅하다, 잇긋, 즈즐하다, 집벅이다, 잠　곕다, 혀쇠'
A great number of a Sino-Korean words are not recorded in our Middle Korean dictionary. We could find that the meaning of vocabularies of which we can understand the meaning because it have been used until now is extended or reduced as a result of change of meaning in those days and in today. The reason that some words are not explained correctly in the Middle Korean dictionary is that those words are explained simply with reference to Chinese oral words[白話].
As the result of this study, we can identify and correct the meanings of many vocabularies that are not recorded or are not explained correctly in the Middle Korean dictionary. The study on the vocabularies in Yuhaeryu(類解類) including the Dongmun yuhae is very useful in making out the vocabulary list of the modern Korean language.
