The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between disposition and adjustable/inadjustable behavior, so to lend infant's adjustable behavior assistance and to help teachers perform education in the field effectively.
The subjects for this study were the parents and teachers of 300 early children aged 2-3, who were attending 5 day care center(l0 classes) in Taegu city. Questionnaires were administered to them, about the relation between infant's temperament and adjustable/inadjustable behavior. For measuring infant's temperament, the version that Choi, Yung-Hee(l990) revised and supplemented Fullard, Carey and McDevitt'(1984) TTQ(Toddler Temperament Questionnaire) was used. For measuring infant' s adjustable behavior, Jewsuwan, Luster and Kostelink's(l992) PAQ(Preschool Adjustment Questionnaire) was used. For measuring infant' s inadjustable behavior, the version that Su, Soo-Kyung(l993) revised and supplemented Behar and Stringfild's(1974) PBQ(The Preschool Behavior Questionnaire) was used.
For data analysis, frequency, percentage, mean, median, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value and Pearson's product-moment correlation analysis were used, by using SPSS/PC statistical program.
Followings are the results of this study ;
Firstly, there was a significant relation between infant's temperament and adjustable behavior at day care center. Out of infant's temperament, distractibility, response, endurance and approach-avoidance were correlated significantly with infant's adjustable behavior at day care center. In other words, the infants who had low degree of distractibility, response and approach-avoidance and high degree of endurance showed pro-social behavior, affirmative emotion, adjustment to the same age group, adjustment to daily routine and affirmative ego-awareness.
Secondly, there was a significant relation between infant's temperament and inadjustable behavior. Out of infant's temperament, the level of activity, approachability, distractibility and response were correlated significantly with infant's inadjustable behavior. In other words, the infants who had high degree of activity, approachability, distractibility and response showed such inadjustable behaviors as offensive hostility and hyperactive distractibility.
Lastly, there was a significant negative relation between infant's adjustable and inadjustable behavior. Out of infant's adjustable behavior categories, pro-social behavior, affirmative emotion, adjustment to the same age group, adjustment to daily routine and affirmative ego-awareness showed a significant negative relation with offensive hostility, worry-unrest and hyperactive distractability among inadjustable behaviors. In other words, infants who were short of pro-social behavior, inadjustable to the same age group and daily routine, and had negative emotion showed high degree of inadjustable behavior at day care center.
