This study was an attempt to investigate social support style and stress coping style according to the attachment level of late adolescence.
In order to achieve the purpose, the following questions were raised:
First, are there any differences among parent-adolescence attachment levels in adolescence`s perceived social support system?
Second, are there any differences among parent-adolescence attachment levels in adolescence`s stress coping styles?
Third, are there any differences among peer attachment levels in adolescence`s perceived social support system?
Fourth, are there any differences among peer attachment levels in adolescence`s stress coping styles?
Fifth, are there any relations parent-adolescence attachment and peer attachment.
For this study, 300 college students(male 112, female 188) were selected from five university in Seoul and Kyunggi province.
As measurement instruments, Armsden and Greenberg`s Inventory of Parents and peer Attachment for measuring the levels of parent-child attachment and peer attachment was use. Cohen and Hoberman`s Interpersonal Support Evaluation which translating in Korean by Kim and Lee(1986) for measuring adolescence`s perceived social support was used. And Folkman and Lazarus`s The Ways of coping Items which translating in Korean by Kim and Lee(1985) for measuring adolescence`s stress coping style was used. Two subscales were selected from The Ways of Coping Items in order to compare problem focused coping style with emotional focused coping style for the one of purpose of this study.
The collected data was analyzed by SPSS computer program: Frequency analysis, ANOVA, Scheffe test, and t-test.
The results of this study are as following:
First, high level of parent-child attachment group tends to perceive more social support than low level of parent-child attachment group.
Second, high level of parent-child attachment group tends to use more problem-focused coping style than low level of parent-child attachment group.
Third, high level of peer attachment group tends to perceive more social support than low level of peer attachment group.
Fourth, there was no significant difference between high level of peer attachment group and low level of peer attachment group in stress coping style.
Fifth, high level of parent-child attachment group tends to have high level of peer attachment.
