This study is aimed at getting broader information of the factors of the relapse of alcoholics and understanding it better, and increase the basic knowledge of promoting the effective process of rehabilitation as well as providing data of program development. Regarding the study method, in-depth interviews were conducted to analyze contents as a qualitative study. The study results turn out that the relapse is affected by various factors. There are no conspicuous factors in each case but rather complex factors in life become the cause of the relapse. Factors found in many cases are classified as those in common, and they are divided into 7 factors.
First, whatever the situation or reason is, irregular participation in AA or the discontinuance of therapy are greatly emphasized to influence the relapse.
Second, experiencing complex and stressful situation in life and responding to it is closely related to drinking.
Third, the subject express loneliness most before drinking, and they finally get alienated from others or avoid them themselves, which is an expression of social isolation.
Fourth, the subject lack constructive plans base on reality when facing a problem as well as practice.
Fifth, the subject are sensitive to closely related family system, and express difficulties they experience their family's indifference or lack of understanding.
Sixth, the subject express , and it indicates that the recognition of their alcohol craving is low or they deny it.
Seventh, the subject show dissatisfaction with their life, related to financial parts.
Other factors include social pressure of drinking, physical state(insomnia, fatigue), personality and trauma caused by social pressure on women.
Considering all these factors, they are complexly related to each other in the aspects of physical, emotion and society rather than biased to one side. Also, it is considered to be more helpful to understand the relapse as an integrated model rather than as a single model. Accordingly, looking at the factors in the results, they are related to each other, and affect each other also. Thus, the factors of affecting the relapse of alcoholics are based on the analysis of their environment including individuals (physical and emotion), family and society, and intervention in various aspects are required.
