CHO SO-ANG (1887-?) had devoted himself to the movement through his life for Independence, struggling against Japan..He was one of leaders for Independence Movement in Provisional Government and Korean Independence Party; was theorist and idea-list who recognized the importance of idea in the Independence movement. For CHO, Independence Movement was just independence revolution; he created Samkyunism by the idea of this revolution. It means destruction and construction, that is, as the idea for knocking down with Japan and constructing a new state, it had become the leading ideology of a few groups of independence movement involving the Provisional Government and Korean Independence Party since 1930's.
Such as CHO's movement against Japan and the features of idealist were derived from his chiidhood. He studied the Chinese letters by Seong Yong who was his grandfather in his childhood, entered the Seong Kyun Kwan in 1902 [Sixteen years old). At this time, he and sin Chae Ho drew up writings of censure impeaching a group of pro-Japan, he attempted a great demonstraticm; it became a beginning of movement against Japan.
Since then, he domonstrated the enlightening movement for patriotism while he studied in Japan, as others did at home. And he began a save-the-nation drive as an editor for Dae Han Hung Hak Bo, the press of Korean students studing in Japan. At the same time, he was studing law in Meigi University, enlarged intelectual groundings and the depth of thought through widely readings of politics, philosophy, history and so on.
He, in the meantime, had been good at the world affairs by the effect of Yong Ha, his brother and diplomat to Germany. And he had been influenced by their advanced political thoughts in touch with Korean students studying in the China. These became the basic background for the formation of his political thought. He recognized the importance of the spirit and the right of the people - the power of the people - for a save-the-nation movement.
In 1912, graduating from the Meigi University Law School,he returned to his native country. In 1913, he sought refuge in Shanghai. At that time, he began the major independence Movement. Above all, he recognized the needness of a grand union for independence movement, participating in Dong Je Sa and an independence movement group, It was for a grand union that he created Youk-Seong Gyo (Six Sages Religion - Dan Gun, Budda, Jesus, Confucius, Socrates and Mahomet).
It was derived from the understanding about the necessity of a grand union that he publicized the declaration of a grand union which was intended to organize the goverrment in 1917.
Since then, he went to Manchuria and organized Korean Independence Resistance Military with Yeo Jun, Kim Joa Jin and others. He drew up the Declaration of Korean Independecne here and he showed a grand of union of the leaders for independence movement as disclosing it with receiving the signatures of 39 leaders for independence movement in various area. It was the most outrageous among the ly-Pal (Tebruary 8) Declaration of Independence in Tokyo and the Samil Independence Movement, and it meant that they could drive Japan from Korea by only forces.
When the Provisional Government was organized as the result of the Samil Movement, he went to Shanghai and took part in the establishment of the Provisional Govemment. He drew up the temporary Charter and paliamentary legislation which are the fundamentary constitution of the Provisional Govemment, he was elected as the chief secretary of state minister, a minister of state for Provisional Government. Since then, he went to Paris and participated in the Second International in Switzerland and he got the approval of the Korean Independence, It was the first time that he obtained the approval of the Korean Independence in the international conference. At this time, he visited Russia England, and the European countries, It gave him the opportunity to know the socialism in Western and the communism in Russia in details.
When Cho returned to Shanghai, the Provisional Government was in the condition of disorder of the difference of methods for independence movement, of the territorial oppositions, of thought dissolution, and the grand union was quite different from that in the establishment of the Provisional Govemment.
He asked the people to put importance on the oposition and disruption in themselves, and asked Independence party and Commuist Party to quit the conflict of opposites through the Independence Press. But he insisted that the Independence Party must have the initiative of the independence movement. He recognized the necessity of unionism and policy to dissolve these oppositions and dissolution, It became the chance for him to create the Samkyunism and he ultimately created the Samkyunism in 1927.
He adopted this Samkyunism as the platform of his party when he made the Korean Independence Party with An Chang-ho, Lee Dong Ryung in 1929. The Korean Independence Party was organized by only nationalists; it played the role of the ruling party of the Provisional Goverrunent Samkyunism finally became the leading idealogy of the Korean Independence Party and the Provisional Government. Once Cho initiated in the National Revolution Party and Unity Alliance of the Front to Japan that Kim Woun Bong-the leftist-organized, so once he disbanded the Korean. Independence movement, he reorganized the Korean Independence Party again. Party. But he had a doubt about left communist movement, he reorganized the Korean Independence Party again.
Since then the Korean Independerice Party unificated Kim Ku's Korean National Party and Lee Cheong Cheon's Chosun Revolution Party in 1940. So, the Korean Independence Party became a group of concentrated nationalists and played the role of the ruling party of the Provisional Govemment.
Otherwise, Cho made the independence movement policy and the founding platform of Korea in the Provisional Govemmernt and presented them. All of them were performed in the Chung K'ing provisional government, the former was the three year plan of the Provisional Government to fight with Japan according to the climates of the Sino-Japanese War and the world war, and the latter was the master plan outlined the Samkyunism for the construction of a new country after the independence.
