중학교 1학년 영어 교과서 분석 : 제 7차 교육 과정을 중심으로 = (An) analysis of the 1st middle school English textbooks : On the basis of the 7th curriculum

국문 초록 (Abstract)

영어 교육 정책의 변화에 따라 본 논문에서는 영어 교육현장에서 사용 되는 주요한 교재인 교과서에 제 7차 교육 과정에서 제시된 내용이 얼마나 반영되고 있는지 살펴보기 위하여 총 13종의 중학교 영어교과서 중 10종의 교과서를 선택하여 비교·분석하였다. 분석의 내용은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 디딤돌(11단원)을 제외한 9종의 교과서는 12단원으로 되어 있으며, 교학, 대일, 두산(장)은 듣기-읽기-말하기-쓰기의 구성을 취하고 있지만 그 외 금성, 대한, 두산(김), 디딤돌, 중앙, 지학, 천재는 듣기-말하기-읽기-쓰기의 구성으로 되어 있다.
둘째, 소재는 처음 중학교에 입학한 학생들이라는 점에 유의하여 모든 교과서가 학교생활이나 교우관계에 관한 소재를 다루었고 개인생활이나 대인관계도 비교적 많이 다루어 졌다. 셋째, 친교활동, 사실적 정보 교환, 지적 태도 표현이 각각 20.5%, 19.9%, 22.3%로 가장 많이 사용되었다. 그러나 도덕적인 태도 표현은 1.19%로 교학, 금성, 대일, 친재에서 한 단원에만 사용되었을 뿐, 그 외 다른 교과서에는 사용되지 않았다.
넷째, 지학을 제외한 각 교과서는 문법정리 파트를 도입하였으나 그에 따른 문법 설명은 배제하였다.
다섯째, 신 어휘는 교학이 174개, 금성은 343낱말을 제시하였으며, 그 외 8종의 교과서는 209개에서 266개의 어휘를 제시하였다.
여섯째, 각 교과서의 듣기 활동은 이해와 관련된 과업 즉 듣고 푸는 문제 풀이형 활동에 집중되어 있었다.
학생들의 의사소통 능력을 함양시키기 위해서는 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기가 통합된 기능 통합 구성이 필요하며, 유의미한 활동의 구현이 필요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to analyze whether currently used middle school English textbooks match the purpose and content of the 7th curriculum. So, this study analyzes the ten chosen textbooks on the basis of the 7th curriculum.
The main results of the analysis are as follows:
1) The organization of seven textbooks is L-S-R-W order, yet remaining three textbooks show L-R-S-W order.
2) In considering topics, all the analyzed textbooks mainly deal with topics related to the daily life of students and personal relationship.
3) Among forty-seven communicative functions, 'expressing intellectual attitudes' and 'friendly relationship' are much shown in the textbooks. Other communicative functions are not well distributed.
4) There are grammar parts in the nine analyzed textbooks without any explanations. Each textbook has about twenty-seven grammatical items.
5) There are over two hundreds new words in the nine textbooks.
6) Listening activities are highly focused of the tasks related to understanding, which are mainly rote learning.
This study concludes that the textbook should include integrated language skills to improve students' communicative competence. And also, drills and tasks should be meaningful.
