They are important because they pose fundamental questions about the decision making of executives and the human impact of corporate power. They are intractable because values are notoriously ill-defined and frequently in conflict with one another. In other words, the ethical issues facing managers and other employees have grown in significance in recent years. This concern is fueled by stakeholders' attention to the effects of internal decisions on them. In addition to higher standards of right and wrong, economic rivalry also has pushed organizations to address issues of ethical and moral conduct.
In a broad sense, ethics includes 1)distinguishing between fact and belief, 2)defining issues in moral terms, and 3)applying moral principles to a situation. Moral principles prescribe general rules of acceptable behavior that are intended to be impartial. General important ethical models for individual decision making and behavior in a corporate are the utilitarian model, the moral rights model, and the justice model.
