다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The March 1st independence movement was the most typical popular movement in Korean history and it was taken part of most of Koreans.
But it was not accomplished simultaneously and vary indifferent "localities. Depending on the religious denomination, the degree of propagation of western education, the industrial structure, historical background and geographycal condition, etc..., the outlook was different.
In Seoul area, it was prepared by methodist church, Chung Ang middle school and Chondogyo, the religion of the humanly way. In northwestern, the Presbyterian denomination was the central force.
In this thesis, I'd like to examine the independence movement, the specific features, Plans and procedures by the Presbyterian denomination.
First: The protestant church and Chondogyo weild much influence in the northwestern part of Korea. Especially, the Protestant church of the region have to do with nationalism that the church engaged in the independence movement deeply. The Christian patriotic enlightenment movement was brisk in the region and that formed the basis of the modern industrial development and western education. It too formed the basis of resistence movement.
Second: The Japanese colonial authorities intended to wipe out the anti-Japanese movement by the Protestants, so they fabricated 105men's plot and arrested them all. But they did not obey to the harsh treatment of the Japanes authorities. In the contrary, they formed strong spritual common front against Japanes authorities. They lead an active life as religious leaders, educators and induralists. In other hand, they established an efficient "liaison with "leaders outside Korea. Thanks to the help of their sacrifice the March 1st independence movement was prepared the ground in advance in September, 1918.
Third: In the northwestern part of Korea, the movement was carried out by the protestants and Chondogyoists systematically. They demonstrated their with in an honorable way and though. Accordingly, suffer greater damage than any other region a short period.
Fourth: When the movement was broken out, the missionaries gave a full account of the acident and impeach the Japanes authorities for their brutalities and stir up public sentiment. The missionaries contributed a great deal in acknowledging the Japanes authorities savage deeds.
I wish I were able to give a more detailed explanations on the March 1st independence movement in the northwestern part of Korea than any other works on the subject till now.
