The aim of this study is to look at the relationship between a question such as 'What makes you think so?' and the formation of children's mathematical concept after a class, including some questions, is conducted. Such teaching method was introduced in the 7th curriculum. Further, this study is to suggest some advice for the development of mathematics education.
To this end, two points to be considered are as follows.
First, What kind of differences are there in questions suggested in elementary school mathematics textbooks under the 7the curriculum?
Second, When asking questions, is there any difference in forming a learner's mathematical concept?
To solve those problems, elementary textbooks and manuals from 1st to 6th grade of the 7th curriculum are examined. Six students were selected from high, mid and low groups of experimental class and comparative class respectively. For those who belong to the experimental class, a teaching-learning method with questions was introduced for 4-Na section as the 7th curriculum suggests. For the other class, normal teaching method was implemented.
To examine the forming process of children's concept through a teacher's questions, the experimental class was videotaped and analyzed. The students in each classes were interviewed, and the difference in quality of forming concept was reviewed.
The results of this study are as follows.
First, teachers' questions are not the same in overall sections of textbooks. Accordingly, teachers must ask different kinds of questions to students.
Second, teachers much ask appropriate questions that fit the level of students. Namely, schoolchildren in the lower grades need converging questions and those who in the higher grades diffusing ones. Therefore, questions must be asked properly according to the developmental stages of children.
Third, the 7th curriculum provides that teachers must ask questions by stages: Let's find out. Which triangle is it? Think of other way. Which would be better for this? Ask questions that make students have mathematical minds in the first place, and the ones that enable students to think of mathematical methods or thoughts. And then the ones that require mathematical knowledge and function needed for forming a concept.
Fourth, the 7th curriculum indicates that teachers' questions must not only be about evaluating ones, but also various ones that can stimulate a learner's thoughts such as diffusing, perceptional, memorable and converging ones.
Fifth, in the process of forming children's concept through questions suggested in the 7th curriculum, several characters are found; students express concepts in their own language through teachers ' questions and answering by themselves; already formed misconception is corrected and broadened concepts are learned, which will clear mathematical concept.
Sixth, Students who were taught with questions showed difference from those who weren't in terms of forming a concept. The high, mid and low groups of experimental class seemed to be better for forming a concept than those groups in comparative class. With respect to interviews, those who in the experimental class responded in a variety of ways rather than a fixed type. Their ability to express and to select words was better.
    Things to consider.
First, a study on students' interest and teachers' attitude must be carried out as the 7th curriculum indicates.
Second, a study on students' ability to solve problems and achieve scholastic goals must be conducted as the 7th curriculum provides.
