국내 뮤직비디오의 선정성과 폭력성에 대한 내용 분석 연구 = (A) Content Analysis of Sexuality and Violence in Music Videos

Music videos have become one of the primary media that music is produced and diffused among the public. Nowadays the societal impact of music videos supercede that of music itself, thus raising problems to be studied. Particularly, contents of music videos are often criticized that they contain sexual and violent messages to the adolescent.
Much research has been conducted into sexuality and violence of broadcast drama and film. However, contents of music videos has drawn little attention from researchers.
This study attempts to analyze the contents of Korean music videos to examine sexuality and violence in terms of style and genre. Using content analysis, this study examined a total of 67 music videos included in "Top 10 Songs" at major Korean network television stations from January to August 2001.
Results of the study can be summarized as follows:
Different genres of music videos contained typical materials of sexuality and violence. Dance music videos contained more sexuality-oriented materials than other genres, while ballad music videos carried more violent ones. It is important to mention that differences exist in every genre and that all of the genres showed sexuality and violence in a sense.
