The purpose of this study was to contribute to resolving several social problems originating from individuals' alienation from each other through the formation of the community between neighbors by providing for the community facilities and programs capable of activating the community spirit among residents within and without the apartment complex and inducing them to have a natural meeting and contact with each other.
The research method included the review of the layout and physical characteristics of community facilities by apartment complex, the on-spot research method for the interview with apartment control office heads and community leaders, the questionnaire research method for the investigation of the use and needs of community facilities and programs for residents within two apartment complexes.
As a result, the following findings were summarized:
1) The 'M' apartment complex(built in 1986) had the separation of the sidewalk and the driveway. In this apartment complex, community facilities were centrally laid out with the sidewalk in the center. It can be said that this layout makes residents convenient in using community facilities and is the layout appropriate for formation of the community.
2) An attempt was made to conduct the interview with apartment control office heads and community leaders. As a result, residents within the 'L' apartment complex(built in 1993) were engaging in more vigorous activity than those within the 'M' apartment complex(built in 1986). Especially, the women's association was actively running the community programs for residents within the apartment complex.
3) An attempt was made to conduct the questionnaire research on the use and needs of community facilities for residents within two apartment complexes. As a result, more than the majority of residents within two apartment complexes were using the playground for children, walking and green spaces. it was found that residents within two apartment complexes had many needs for the use of community facilities without the apartment complex for the purpose of the indoor/outdoor swimming pool, the residents' meeting and multipurpose event place, the recreational room, the lecture room for liberal arts and the like.
4) An attempt was made to conduct the questionnaire research on the use and needs of community programs for residents within two apartment complexes. As a result, it was found that residents within two apartment complexes showed the high level of participation in such programs as garbage separation collection necessary for daily life, the operation of the marketplace for direct transaction of agricultural and marine products with producers and the thrifty market. As for the needs of community programs, residents within the 'L' apartment complex(built in 1993) generally showed a preference for activity within the complex, whereas residents within the 'M' apartment complex(built in 1986) had the greater preference for the community welfare center.
5) An attempt was made to investigate the level of satisfaction with community facilities and programs for residents within two apartment complexes. As a result, it was found that residents within the 'M' apartment complex had the higher level of satisfaction with community facilities and programs than those within the 'M' apartment complex. An attempt was made to investigate whether there was the correlation between the use and needs of community programs for residents within two apartment complexes. As a result, it was found that in the 'U apartment complex, residents showed the higher level of satisfaction with community facilities as they used them more. But for residents within the 'M' apartment complex, there was no significant correlation between their use of community facilities and their level of satisfaction with them. And residents within two apartment complexes did not show a significant level of satisfaction with the use of community facilities and programs.
