This study was designed to explore the relationships among attachment styles, social support levels, and satisfaction levels in courtship.
To achieve the following four questions were carry out for the purpose of the study. First, are there any differences among attachment styles, with percieved levels of social support? Secondly, are there any differences among attachment styles in satisfaction levels in courtship? Thirdly, are there any differences in percieved levels of social support and satisfaction in courtship? Lastly, are there any relations among perceived levels of social support and satisfaction in courtship and the attachment styles?
For this study, 239 college students were sampled in Seoul and Kyung-gi province in Korea, who are classified into three attachment styles. About 50% of 239 students are in the securely attached style, 12% of them are in the avoidant attached one, and 38% are in the ambivalent attached one.
In order to classify the styles of adult attachment, Revised Adult Attachment Scale developed by Collins and Read was used as a tool. The percieved levels of social support were measured by Interpersonal Support Evaluation List, which has been developed by Cohen and Hoberman translated into Korean by standardized Kim and Lee(1986). The levels of satisfaction in courtship who measured by Snyder's Marital Satisfaction Inventory which was traslated into Korean by Ryu(2000) for the levels of satisfaction in courtship.
The collected data were analyzed by SPSS computer program: pearson correlation, cluster analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan posttest.
The results of this study are as following :
First, the group in securely attachment style tends to percived highger level in social support than the group in avoidant and ambivalent attachment style. Secondly, the group in securely attachment style tends to reveal higher level of satisfaction in courtship than the group in avoidant and ambivalent attachment styles. Thirdly, the higher level social support group tends to show the higher level satisfation in courtship. Lastly, th group in securely attachment style tends to show higher level in social support and higher satisfaction in courtship compare to the group avoidant and ambivalent attachment style.
