한국영화에 있어서 특수분장 기법의 활용 사례에 관한 분석 연구 = (A) study on the analysis about the application case of special makeup technique in Korean movie

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 특수분장 기술이 우리나라 영화 제작에 어떻게 적용되었으며, 특수분장이 의도한 목적과 효과 측면에서의 성과와 제반 문제점이 무엇인지를 분석하는데에 목적을 두고 있다. 개괄적으로 특수분장이 도입된 영화의 적용사례를 살펴보고, 이후 특수분장기법이 본격적으로 활용되기 시작한 영화를 선정하여 사례별로 분석하였다.
각 영화에서 특수분장의 분류별 활용사례를 제시하고, 그 사례를 분석하여 현황과 문제점을 검토하였다. 또한 다양한 특수분장기법이 활용된 헐리우드(Hollywood) 영화의 캐릭터를 분석함으로써 한국영화에서의 특수분장의 발전 가능성 및 전망을 알아보았다.
한국영화의 특수분장 활용사례를 헐리우드 영화와 비교한 결과, 한국영화의 특수분장 구현에 몇가지 문제점을 발견할 수 있었다. 첫번째는 특수분장에 대한 인식부족과 특수분장 기술력의 부족, 두번째는 특수분장 관련 자료와 전문가의 부족, 세번째는 국외재료에의 의존과 한국영화의 열악한 제작환경 등을 들 수 있다.
이상에서 살펴본 바를 토대로 우리 영화에서 특수분장기법이 제대로 정착하기 위한 개선방안을 살펴보면, 전문적인 프로의식과 특수분장기술의 개발, 그리고 교육환경 개선과 과감한 투자, 영화소재의 국제화, 체계적인 사전계획과 세밀한 작업수행력 등이 필요하다는 것이다.
현재 국내 영화계에서는 스케일이 큰 대작들이 왕성하게 기획, 제작되고 있으나 특수분장 분야의 전문 인력이 부족해 일반분장사들이 담당하는 예가 많다. 이 때문에 영화의 사실감 등이 떨어져 영화 자체가 저평가되는 경우도 있다. 따라서 특수분장교육을 제대로 받은 전문인력이 필요하며, 특수분장사들도 이 분야의 표현영역을 개척하려는 전문가다운 책임감이 더 요구된다.
국내 영화시장이 협소했을 때는 많은 돈을 투자하기가 어려웠고 그것은 일반분장에 비해 더 많은 제작비를 요구하는 특수분장의 제작비 절감으로 연결된다. 영화의 스케일이 클수록 특수효과는 더욱 요구되며 상상력의 한계를 뛰어 넘는 소재를 구현하고자 할 때는 특수분장이 필수불가결한 요소로 부각되기 때문에 더욱 많은 관심과 발전이 있게 된다.
특수분장기술을 이용한 영화는 인간의 무한한 상상력을 현실로 표현하기에 이르렀고, 가공의 이야기를 사실적으로 묘사해서 관객과의 공감대를 형성하는데 커다란 공헌을 하고 있다. 국내영화에서는 그 동안 특수분장이 차지하는 비중이 미약했으나 90년대 중반이후 이 분야의 중요성을 인식하고, 활용이 활발히 진행되어 전문인력이 형성되고 있다. 미국영화의 특수분장 역사는 1908년 작품인 <지킬박사와 하이드>를 시작으로 90여년에 이르는데 비해 한국영화는 1994년 작품인 <구미호>가 특수분장이 활용된 첫영화로 인정되고 있어서 특수분장 역사가 10년이 안된다. 선진기술을 흠내낸 질낮은 특수분장 기술에 만족한 과거와는 달리 현재 우리영화의 특수분장 기술은 짧은 역사를 감안하면 비약적으로 발전하고 있다고 할 수 있다.
한국영화에서 차지하고 있는 특수분장의 현실은 아직까지 과도기적 단계라고 할 수 있지만, 우리 또한 시행착오를 격으며 나날이 발전하고 있다.
21세기의 영상산업 발전과 함께 한국영화가 세계진출을 활발하게 모색하기 위해서는 특수분장 분야의 비중도 그만큼 높아진다고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 한국영화에서 특수분장이 필요한 경우 투자를 아끼지 말아야 하고 철저한 기획 등이 뒷받침돼야 할 것이다.

In this study, this researcher is aiming at analyzing how special makeup technique was applied to the manufacture of movie of our country and what results and all the points at issues from the viewpoint of goal and effect that special makeup intended are. After examining the application case of motive that special makeup was introduced generally and choosing the movie that special makeup technique started to be utilized on a full scale, this researcher analyzed by cases.
After presenting the application cases by the classification of special makeup in each movie and analyzing the cases, this researcher examined present situation and points at issues. In addition, this researcher examined the development possibility and prospect of special makeup in Korean movie by analyzing the character of Hollywood movie that diverse special makeup techniques were utilized.
As the result that this researcher compared the applicason cases of special makeup of Korean movie with Hollywood movie, this researcher could discover some kinds of points at issues for the realization of special makeup of Korean movie. The lack of recognition about special makeup and the lack of technique power of special makeup firstly, lack of data and specialists related to special makeup secondly, depending on external material and inferior manufacture environment of Korean movie thirdly etc. may be enumerated.
This researcher thinks that the development of profession proconsciousness and special makeup technique, the improvement of education environment and the daring investment, the internationalization of movie material, the systematic prior plan, and the minute performance power of work etc. are necessary, if we examine the improvement schemes for settling special makeup techniques right in our movie.
Masterpieces of which the scale is big are being planned and manufactured prosperously in inland movie circle now. But, as the professional menpower of special makeup field are insufficient, there are many cases that general impersonators take charge of.
As the real sense of movie etc. are inferior because of it, there is the case that movie, itself is underestimated. Thus, professional menpower who received special makeup education right are necessary, and the responsible sense of special impersonators as specialists to try to cultivate the expression domain of this field is required all the more.
When inland movie market was narrcw, it was difficult to invest much money. And, it is linked to the reduction of manufacture expense of special makeup to demand much more manufacture expense in comparison with general makeup. As the scale of movie is big, special effect is required all the more. And, in trying to realize the material over the limit of imagination, special makeup is embossed as indispensable element. So, there may be much more interest and development.
Movie which used special makeup technique came to express the ifinite imagination of human beings actually, and it is contribute to forming the sympathy zone with spectators greatly by describing fictitious story realistically. In inland movie, relative importance that special makeup occupies was weak in the meantime. But, after the midterm of 1990s, the importance of this field has been recognized and the application has been progressed actively. So, professional menpower are being formed. The history of special makeup of American movie are 90 years or so with <Dr, Chikill and Mr. Hide>, the work in 1908 as starting point. Then, the history of special makeup of Korean movie falls short of 10 years, as <Koomiho>, the work in 1994 is being recognized as the first movie that special makeup was utilized. It can be said that the special makeup technique of our present movie is developing by leaps and bounds in consideration of short history unlike the past which was satisfied with the special makeup technique of low quality which imitated advanced technique.
It can be said that the actuality of special makeup which is occupying in Koran movie is in transitional stage yet. But, we are developing day by day, experiencing trial and error.
It can be said that the relative importance of special makeup field becomes high as such so as to grope for the advancement of Korean movie to world with the development of reflection industry in the 21st century. Thus, in case that special makeup is necessary in Korean movie, we will not have to spare investment and thorough plan etc. will have to be supported.
