This study aims to investigate job satisfaction and social support of nurses who work in public health field in Jeollanamdo province and find a correlation between them. Through reinforcements of job satisfaction and social support dependant on individual and organizational characteristics, it aims at a decrease of the leaving their job and absence rate and a secure of basic data of personnel resource maintenance to form productive and positive attitude toward job.
The tools of this study were measuring Tools of Job Satisfaction and Social Support. The period to collect data was March 26th through April 20, 2001. The subjects were 200 public health nurses in Jeollanamdo province. The questionnaires were distributed through public offices of Jeollanamdo province and of them, 121 copies were answered.
The data collected were analysed using SAS Program and the results are as follows :
1. Mean score of job satisfaction of public health nurses was 2.90. Considering the questions, the score question of ''there is a difference between public nursing activities and public health adminstration" was the highest ( 3.90 >. The score of the question of "my job is most important" was lowest ( 1.95 >.
2. Job satisfaction is influenced dependant on educational background (p=0.0274> while it was little influenced dependant on popular and social variables. The job satisfaction of nurses ranked 9th class was highest ( 3.02 > and job satisfaction of the graduates of Nursing high school was lowest ( 2.71 >. However, it was not statistically significant. ( p=0.1712 >
3. Mean score of social support was 2.59 with 2.68 indirect support and 2.51 direct support.
In order to increase job satisfaction of public health nurses, it is important to dedicate studies to identify the factors that influence on social and administrative support.
