As domestic universities grow rapidly with new educational techniques and systems introduced, the university administration becomes more and more complicated requiring more positive roles of the administrative officials for effective operation of the university organizations.
Under such circumstances, this study was aimed at reviewing the factors determining private university officials' job satisfaction. To this end, 10 determinants were selected for the analysis. Then, how subjects' demographic variables may affect their job satisfaction was analyzed.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows;
First, as a result of analyzing the factors determining university officials' job satisfaction, the most influential factor was reeducation and training factor, followed by job itself, social status of job, supervision, wage level, human relationship, communication, stability and self-development, welfare and working environment, and personnel affair system.
On the other hand, it was found that university officials were least satisfied with such subvariables of the personnel affair system as deployment and transfer, promotion and welfare, while they were least satisfied with such subvariables of the wage factor as difference of wage level among ranks or relative wage level and the communication factors(downward communication, limited job creativity and suggestion), and self-development.
Second, as a consequence of testing the determinants depending on subjects' demographic variables, it was found that the significant difference was only found between sexes as far as the personnel affair system factors were concerned. On the other hand, depending on the age variable, officials' satisfaction differed significantly in such factors as personnel affair system, wage level, communication, reeducation and training, welfare and working environment. The career length was also a significant determinant affecting officials' satisfaction with wage level, communication, supervision, stability and self-development, welfare and working environment. The variable of rank affected officials' satisfaction with personnel affair system, wage level, welfare and working environment.
This study can be concluded as follows;
First, it was confirmed that university officials' efficient job performance was much affected by their job satisfaction determinants.
Second, since the determinants differed depending on officials' demographic variables, it was deemed necessary to take individuals' demographic variables into consideration and thereby, solve their job dissatisfaction and reinforce their job satisfaction.
Lastly, it is hoped that this study will be followed up by future studies which will compare private university officials' job satisfaction with other organization members' to enhance personnel management, since it is expected that individuals' their life quality will be determined by individuality or creativity of their job in the age of information-intensive society.
