The purpose of this thesis is to empirically examine the effect of group counseling on the self concept of the isolated from their fellow students in the elementary school
There are six hypotheses settled to accomplish these purposes.
Hypotesis 1 : There will be a difference in the self concept between rejects of group, which experienced group counseling and normal children.
Hypotesis 2-1 : There will be a difference in the academic self concept between rejects of group, which experienced group counseling, and the controlled group children.
Hypotesis 2-2 : There will be a difference in the social self concept between rejects of group, which experienced group-dynamics counseling, and the controlled group children.
Hypotesis 2-3 : There will be a difference in the physical self concept between rejects of group, which experienced group counseling, and the controlled group children..
Hypotesis 2-4 : There will be a difference in the emotional self concept between rejects of group, which experienced group counseling, and the controlled group children.
Hypotesis 2-5 : There will be a difference in the total scores of positive self concept between rejects of group and normal children, which experienced group counseling, and the controlled group children.
To prove this hypotheses, the researcher chose 20 students of the fifth grade in the A elementary school in Taejon City.
One class of 10 students is assigned in the experimaental group with the group-dynamics counseling and the others are in the controlled group for this comparative study.
These students are tested for checking the self-concept after 10 weeks of group dynamics counseling.
The results are as follows:
Hypothesis 1 : The observed differences among the three means was statistically significant(P<.01). Rejects of the group are negative than normal childrens in social, physical, emtional, and total positvity of self concept. Therefore, Hypothesis 1 is accepted.
Hypothesis 2-1 : The observed differences among the two means of academic self concept was not statistically significant. But the adademic self-concept of childrens of expeimantal group is more positive than childrens of controlled group in the post test. Therefore, Hypothesis 2-1 is accepteded.
Hypothesis 2-2 : The observed differences between the two means of social self concept was not statistically significant. But there is the statistically significant differences between the pre and the post test of social self-concept in two group childrens. Therefore, Hypothesis 2-2 is rejected.
Hypothesis 2-3 : The observed differences between the two means of physical self concept was statistically significant. Rejects of the group in the experimental group are more positive than controlled group children in physical self concept in the post test. Therefore, Hypothesis 2-3 is accepted.
Hypothesis 2-4 : The observed differences between the two means of emotional self concept was statistically significant. Rejects of the group in the experimental group are more positive than controlled group children in emotional self concept in the post test. Therefore, Hypothesis 2-4 is accepted.
Hypothesis 2-5 : The observed differences between the two means of total positivity of self concept was statistically significant. Rejects of the group in the experimental group are more positive than controlled group children in total positivity of self concept in the post test. Therefore, Hypothesis 2-5 is accepted.
Conseguently, this program influenced importantly in academic, physical, emotional, and total positivity of self concept. That is, when the proper group counseling is given to rejects of the group in elemeantary school children, it can help them change the self-concept.
