다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

These days, in the information society, the form of information is becoming various and production of that is becoming mass. It has formed the wave of information.
This flood of information is changing education and the situation of research in universites in that there is a changed role in the important of university libraries.
That is why university libraries assume the role of giving the information services to various users as collecting, adjusting, and putting every information to practical use for scientific research and education activity.
The librarians, human resources of libraries, should understand the information society because they must act up to demands of users who are in need of scientific research and education activity and positively cope with this new situation. Especially, the speciality of librarians who are giving directly this information is being emphasized all the time because the evaluation of university libraries is decided by service with users as the central figure and the value of offered service.
The quality development of service for smooth accomplishment of the role of university libraries must be attain from the continuing education of librarian and scholars of Library and Information Science and library expert groups have made it a subject of discussion. The purpose of the continuing education of librarians is to develop quality of librarians as doing practical affairs and quality improvement of librarians as doing practical affairs and quality improvement of librarians by themselves helps libraries organized and quality development of themselves helps libraries organized and quality development of service for users who are in libraries.
Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to grope for the necessity and better way of activation of continuing education of librarians because of librarians professional for suitable environment of university and the quality development of service for users.
As a consequence of this study, here are plans for activation of continuing education of librarian as follows.
First, we should to reduce the gab between the curriculum of Library and Information Science Department which is focused on theory and practical affairs, scholars of Library and Information Science and librarians who have a lot of actual experiences to do joint research activities.
By doing this, librarians can satisfy the desire of education through developing various programs of continuing education in relation to librarian affairs.
Second, for raising the standard of information service, the essential necessity is improvement in quality by self-development and security of expert librarians who are the main body of information service. For this, at the point of the progressing competitive power of universities and voluntary participation for librarians' continuing education, the systematic fixation for continued and active support of universities is needed.
Third, library expert groups should supply new technical knowledge and skills which are needed in the rapidly varied information society. Going one step forward, for the basic construction of intelligence information society, the government should establish the organization to undertake continuing education. We can practice systematic continuing education with these plans.
In addition, after this study, it is also worth studying that we search the relationship between continuing education of librarians and the requisites that can satisfy the users' demand of information which is fractioned and specialized by improving the abilities of performance of librarians' duties.
