As more stroke patients are found, most of the diseases occur without any early symptoms and even though the patients are recovered from stroke, they naturally have disorders. The hemiplegic patients after suffering stroke need help from others in their activities of daily living abilities. So it is regarded that families have important roles in this situation. It is considered important to know how families perceive the situation brought by patients and what they should learn to help patients to be able to offer effective nursing,
For this study, 138 hemiplegic patients were researched to gain a activities of daily living better understanding of their ability to perform abilities. and the educational need for family
A summary of the research is as follows :
1. Throughout the activities of daily living abilities performed by hemiplegic patients, a total value of performance was 76.88 and a standard deviation was 34.51.
2. High degree of performance of activities of daily living abilities was found when patients were young, support was made by their mates, hemiplegic body parts were right, canes were used as aids.
3. In an educational need from patients' families, the total value of the need was 91.51 and a standard deviation was 9.32.
4. An educational need from patients' families was significantly high when patients were female, and they were nursed by their children
5. No significant correlation was found between activities of daily living abilities of patients and the educational need from families.
As the result of this research outlined, it can be state that there is no direct relation between activities of daily living abilities of stroke patients and educational need of his family. However considering that educational background, the most important support system of rehabilitional treatment, is high, to find out the educational background of the patient's family and adaping it to the nursing plan as a hope of rapid recovery of hemiplegic patients after stoke may increase the activities of daily living abilities of hemiplegic patients.
