    This thesis has attempted to identify out problems in the current ways of diffusing agricultural technology and the ways of solving such problems. A questionnaire survey was conducted on governmental officers of the Korean Agricultural Technology Center (KATC), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery in South Korea. The Data used in this thesis was gathered from the KATC offciers who were employed by county and city offices of the KATC within Chungnam Province and those directly employed by the provincial branch of the KATC. While there are 554 officers are currently working under the jurisdictions of Chungnam Province, 500 questionnaires were distributed to each branch of the KATC within Chungnam Province by mail. From this mail survey, 390 completed questionnaires were collected and 384 effective questionnaires were used for analysis.
    The questionnaire used in this thesis contains fourty or so questions, related to problems of diffusing agricultural technology to farmers, the current ways of educating farmers, degree of computer usages in agricultural activities, frequency of field work, and opinions on more effective ways of diffusing agricultural technology.
    The results of the questionnaire are that first, working momentum of the KATC officers, was seriously affected by large scale lay-offs, implemented under the governmental restructuring process, since the year of 1997 Korean economic crisis. It has been reported that many of the respondents felt that the shortage of staffs was one of the serious problems in effective technology diffusion. Second, many of the respondents saw that a small-scale model horticulture that was newly introduced to the field, could be an effective alternative to the current ways of agricultural technology diffusion. It has also been reported that modern teaching methods, such as those based on computers, and multi-media were needed. In addition, the survey indicated that communicative learning methods and open discussions between farmers and technology officers could be effective ways of transferring agricultural technology.
    Based on the survey results, this thesis argues that, first it is important to provide the KATC brance offices with more advanced tools of information technology, such as personal computers and Web Pages. Second, it is also important to provide the KATC officers with more opportunities of learning advanced technology diffusion. Third, it is necessary to establish additional models of horticulture field to introduce new agricultural technology in the field. Fourth, it is required to staff additional members to the branch of the KATC diffusion to reduce the shortage of labour in the KATC. Finally, the thesis argues to supplement modernized facilities of KATC branches.
