The purpose of the paper is twofold. At first, the level of job stress and satisfaction that public kindergarten teachers currently feel in their workplace will be researched. Next, the relationship between job stress and job satisfaction will be examined and the results will be used to improve the working environment of the public kindergartens.
The questions that are presented to achieve the purposes of the paper are as follows.
Firstly, is there any relationship between the level of job stress that the teachers feel and their personal attributes such as age, marital status, education, years of work experience, number of pupils?
Secondly, is there any relationship between the level of job satisfaction that the teachers feel and their personal attributes such as age, marital status, education, years of work experience, number of pupils?
Lastly, is there any relationship between job stress and job satisfaction?
The research was conducted on 300 kindergarten teachers in Kyong-gi province.
The tool for identifying the level of job stress employed in the paper is one developed by Sun-Nan Do(1999). The Soon-Nam Nos tool is, in turn, based on tools developed by Rizzo(1970) and Galloway(1982).
The job satisfaction analysis tool adopted in the paper is one developed by Yoo-Jin Song which elaborate the ECJSS by Jorde-Bloom(1998).
The collected raw data is analyzed through Frequency Analysis, t-Test, one-way ANOVA, Correlations, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis.
The findings of the research are:
At first, the main cause of job stress is work overload, and difference in job stress by personal attributes are as follows.
1. There is no statistical implication between job stress and age, education, work experience.
2. There is little difference found by marital status.
3. There is difference identified by number of pupils. The variable, number of pupils, holds several categories such as naughty pupils, classroom activities, events, worse working environment, informal relationship with colleagues. There is statistical implication found with all the categories.
Next, job satisfaction is mainly created by a good relationship with colleagues, and difference in job satisfaction by personal attributes are as follows.
1. There is difference identified by age.
2. There is no difference found by marital status, but difference by education.
3. In terms of compensation/promotion, there is difference found by the level of satisfaction towards work environments.
At last, in terms of correlation between job stress and job satisfaction, there was a negative correlation found in almost every category of two variables.
1. Job stress factors affecting the satisfaction of relationship with colleagues are relationship with pupils parents, role ambiguity, and relationship with colleagues.
2. Job stress factors affecting the satisfaction of relationship with the principles are work overload and relationship with pupils parents.
3. Job stress factors affecting the job satisfaction itself are work overload and relationship with pupils parents.
4. Job stress factors affecting the job satisfaction of work environments are worse environments, events, naughty pupils, and informal relationship with colleagues.
5. Job stress factors affecting the job satisfaction of compensation/promotion are worse environments, work overload, classroom activities, and relationship with pupils parents.
