This study was designated to help the students. With the purpose to aid in diminishing the numbers of cases of maladjustment, this study employed the task-centered group model to verify the hypothesis which suggested group influence on the students' target problems, personal adjustment, and scholl life adjustment.
This study proceeded in the counselor's office of a hig school which is located in Kyonggi-do. Ten students were referred by the school counselor, and all of them were boys. The students were divided into two groups and eight group sessions were done. Whether the task-centered group work is possible to decline or settle the target problems, to improve the personal adjustment like planning, responsibility, self-innercontrol, self-efficacy, and well interpersonal relationship, and to reinforce the adjustment of school life like interest in school, regular attendance at the class and importance of grade, and rule-observance were studied.
The analysis of this study is as follows;
The participation of task-centered was proved its effectiveness by the significant degree of difference between pre and post test results.
1. The target problems were diminished or solved in a positive way
2. The personal adjustment was improved
3. The school life adjustment was improved.
As the students participate in the program, the group members with the maladjustment defined their problems, created the tasks, coped with the obstacles, and generated the alternatives. Through the procedure, it resulted that which included previous target problems redirected positively; that the personal adjustment, the planning ability, responsibility, inner control, self-efficacy and interpersonal relationship was reinforced. In addition, the school life adjustment was improved.
The effectiveness of the task-centered model can be summarized into the following points:
1. The task-centered model guides the students to recognize their problems and gives the start of the solution.
2. The task-centered model guides the students to solve the problem through planing, prediction, and choice
3. The task-centered model is effective in acquisition of self-efficacy and responsibility in a short time, because it has the adolescents accomplish the task and change the target problem.
4. The task-centered model is effective in measuring the results, because it has the client and the worker select the target problem, establish the goal and the task, and evaluate the accomplishment the task and the result.
Here and some suggestions for the social workers who are to use the task-centered model for the maladjusted adolescents in school;
1.The degree of effectiveness of the task-centered model may be down in the case of adolescents who have low motivation and comprehension, and don't keep in step with the other members of the group. For them, case work is suitable.
2. The result that the effectiveness of the task-centered model is higher with the girls than the boys, the result of the antecedent study in U.S.A. This studyis focused on the boys, and it needs to be expanded to the girls so to compare the result in Korea.
3. social workers have to try to get in collaboration with school administrators and teachers, so the group work is applied in school frequently.
