The initial establishment of Chun-Kwak Seowon has been made by Hee Yeo Seo, Okchon county governor, in Sun-jo 4
But. the building of Ssangbong (Chung-Kwak) Seowon had been burned down during the, Japanese Invasion in Im-Jin year reconstructed afterwards and renamed Samkye Seowon.
This Seowon had had memorial rites for Cho- Ang in addition to Chun and Kwak. Some of SeoWon attenders complained of celebrating Cho-Ang together in their SeoWon because he was Westman (Seo-in), while they were Northman (Buk-in)
The antagonism came into the open in the problem of placing the celebrated spirits in order as the party strife intensified after In-jo Palace Revolution.
The spirit plaque of Cho-hun had been drawn out of Samkye SeoWon and moved into Changjoo SeoWon,
As a result, the conflict between Samkye SeoWon scholar group and Changjoo SeoWon scholar group had deepened following this event. The Samkye SeoWon scholar group which had consisted of Northman had stayed a higher position over Changjoo SeoWon scholar group (Sarim) until then.
But this situation had been reversed because the Seoin leaders, Kim-jip and Song-Siyul etc., supported Changjoo SeoWon after they assumed power in In-jo palace Revolution.
The conflict between both local scholar groups had developed into central political circle and each party tried to expand its influential area through local SeoWon.
The withdrawl of Kwak's spirit plaque, the transfer of Samkye SeoWon land property to Changjoo SeoWon, and the attachment of some Samkye scholars to Seoin group had caused the decline of Chun-Kwak SeoWon.
After all Samkye SeoWon had been closed in Hyo-jong S. As the result of the closure of rival SeoWon, Changjoo SeoWon had strengthened its position in OkChon area, furthermore played the role of Seoin's rear base to support their political views.
Especially the Royal grant to Changjoo Seowon became the chance to display their political ability and the strengthen their influence on OkChon area population.
I can say that above facts are the conclusion of this journal.
Although any attempt to scrutinize the situation of sarim in certain area requires further researches on Seowons of similar type in different areas and related data compile and analysis.
