The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of communication skill training of the high school girls. Subjects for this study were 12 female high school students.
They were ramdomly assigned to one of two groups;
(1) Experiment group which had communication skill training for five semiweekly two and a half hours sessions with six members; (2) control group which had group counseling for same sessions with six members.
Five weeks later, each subject had peer group counseling for 12 hours during the weekend with six participants. The subjects' human relations was measured by schlein & Guerney's Relationship Change Scale. Their communication level was measured by Gazda's Warmth Scale, Empathy Scale, and Self-Disclosure Scale. The participants' effect of peer group counseling was measured by Lifton's Group Activity Attending Scale.
In order to test statistical significance on effect of training program, t-test was applied to each score.
Mayjor findings of the present study were as follows:
(1) Experiment group demonstrated more improvement in communication, sensitivity, and openness than control group.
(2) Experiment group demonstrated more improvement in warmth, empathy, self-disclosure, and overall communication levels than control group.
(3) Experiment group demonstrated more improvement in the participants' effect of peer group counseling than control group.
