The purpose of this study is to see child care provider' working environment and to find out the relation between their job satisfaction and health condition perceived by them.
For this purpose, the following study point were set up;
First, how to do the child care providers perceive of their physical or mental conditions?
1) In terms of physical or mental illness symptoms
2) In terms of the factors causing such symptoms
Second, how do the child care provider perceive of their working environment?
1) In terms of physical environment of the child care facilities
2) In terms of their job satisfaction
For these study points, 116 child care providers who work in Seoul were sampled from 35 child care facilities to be subject to a questionnaire survey.
The results of this study can, be summarized as follows;
First, 90,,4% of the child care providers answered that they had once or more felt abnormal for their physical or mental condition, which suggests that their services for child care facilities are correlated with their increased physical or mental inconveniences. The respiratory illness accounted for most serious mental illness perceived was tension, followed by depression, sensitivity, inadequacy and anxiety in their order.
In terms, of the factors causing such illness, the majority of the child care providers suspected dusts, poor ventilation or much talks for their respiratory illness, and repeated hard work for their muscle-skeletal illness, while ascribing overwork, complaint, stress, sensitivity and tension to their mental illness.
Second, 60% of the children's houses had neither first-aid facility nor shower room. According to nursing teachers' responses, other major facilities lacked or were poor.
The analysis of child care providers' job satisfaction as their psychological working condition showed that they were motivated most by creed for job(M=25.02), followed by working environment(M=21.01), human relationship(M=17.92), enhancement of professionalism(M=16.54) and reward system(M=16.27).
Third, as a result of analyzing child care providers' open suggestions to relieve them of physical or mental illness factors, it was found that the majority of them were desirous of a resting time, a regular commuting between home and workplace, a vacation for their monthly menstruation, a less crowded classroom, support of material and educational tools, a biweekly weekend off-duty, a periodic health check, etc. Beside, many child care providers hoped for outsourcing of classroom cleaning serviced, assistant teachers, teachers' rest-room, training program, seasonal vacations, expanded re-educational opportunities and the stable employment of child care provider.
