The objective of this study to determine the degree of job satisfaction and need satisfaction of school foodservice employees, and the relationship between Job in General(JIG) and need satisfaction. The survey forms were developed for dietitian and foodservice employees. The six demographic items, the Job Descriptive Index(JDI) and JIG scales and Need Satisfaction Questionnaire(NSQ) were used to means Job Satisfaction and need satisfaction for employees.
The result of this study showed that employee were the most satisfied with co-workers(2.52), then supervision(2.48), work
(1.86), promotion(0.72) and pay(0.51) in decreasing order.
Relations of demographic factors to the job satisfaction scores were studied. Female employees showed significantly higher level of JIG than male. Older employees(Age≥40) tend to be more satisfied with work(p=0.0906) and JIG(p=0.0620) than did younger employees(20≤Age<39). Employees were the most satisfaction with Social needs(1.03), then Autonomy needs(1.55), Self-autonomy needs(1.65), Esteem needs(1.73), Security needs(2.54) in decreasing order. There were no significantly difference between demographic factors and five need categories.
However, Female employees were more satisfied with feeling
of pressure than male employees. Satisfaction with Security and Esteem were tend to be related JIG groups. GroupⅠshowed less satisfied(p=0.0627) with Security than GroupⅡ.
This study provided the level of employees' job satisfaction and need satisfaction, and the satisfaction of employees' Security and esteem needs related with JIG. Therefore, foodservice managers can use this information for applying job design to increase productivity.
