이강백 희곡에 나타난 알레고리 연구 = Study on the allegory of Lee Kang Back's Plays

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The dissertation is written for the purpose with making sure the drama-historical significance through analysis of the allegorical characteristic which is shown by the Lee Gang Back's plays. In order to show it, 15 plays which contain the allegorical characteristic are analyzed, and transformations of allegory are studied. It Follows some kind of conclusion.
First, early characteristic of Lee Kang Back's plays is found in the basic allegorical form of fable which develope the situation in a short one-act drama with clear and simple way. It seems that the author tried to find an indirect method as a mean of escape in depressing political situation of 1970's, however that kind of viewpoint ceases the discussion at the surface level. Lee Kang Back gave an attention, not to political, social problem, and indirect showing but to complication and confrontation in human being. So Lee Kang Back used the allegory as an effective literary apparatus.
Second, in 1980's Lee Kang Back began to give a change to his play through the reflection of the previous play writing method, keeping the structure of his allegory in the same way as before. For Example he chose the subject matter from a real life, and used motives of Korean traditional tale. His play entered upon a new phase. The reason Lee Kang Back gave form to his play in the mould of allegory, is from the Lee's vi ew of the world which is to explain that the world is a kind of dissension of dichotomy.
Third, in 1990's, the common 'enemy' of the general public vanished, so that Lee Kang Back supposed his abstract concept in place of the subject that gained the sympathy from the his contemporaries. Compared with his early plays that established in background of familiar Korean situation, his latter plays failed to transmit the meaning of writer's crude concept.
In view of the results so far achieved, the allegory for Lee Kang Back who has concentrated on the influence upon the individual and dissension of dichotomy. is a proper frame of writing a play. It still needed, however, the comprehensive and close study on Lee Kang Back because his art work doesn't end.
