The purpose of this study is to get basic data necessary for an effective program production of parent education by investigating the realities of parent education operated in kindergarten and the understandings and requests of mothers and teachers about operation of that program.
The concrete topics to accomplish the purpose of this research are as follows.
1. To what extent do the teachers understand the purpose of parent education?
2. What are the methods and the contents of parent education ooperated by kindergarten like?
3. Why doesn't parent education have enough effects?
4. What do mothers and teachers request for the methods and the contents of parent education?
5. What do mothers and teachers require about parent participation activities and the types of that program?
The conclusion based on the results of this research are as follows.
1. Teachers recognize that parent education is important for improving the qualities of children education.
2. In the methods and the contents of parent education, 'home correspondence' and 'children guidance' were used much more than 'home visit' and 'hobby and culture'.
3. The reason that the parent education is not operated effectively is because of 'the lack of parents' interest and understanding of that program' and 'the lack of time of parents and teachers for good operation'.
4. In the methods and the contents of parent education, 'home correspondence,' and 'parent role and bring-up' and much more requested from mothers and teachers than 'policy maker' and 'information about kindergarten.'
5. Among parent participation activities and the types of that program, most of mothers and teachers asked for 'listening to children's reading' and 'programs for children and mothers'. But 'program operation and policy decision' and 'program for remarried family' were less requested.
Therefore, in the future, in order to have the greatest effects on the children education, it is necessary to grasp what mothers and teachers require for the program and then to reflect their request on the development and operation of the program.
