Objects : This study was designed to explore psychopathology of obese adolescent school girls.
Method : After underweight, normal-weight group and overweight group were identified according to BMI(body mass index), We compared current weight & height, ideal weight & height, subtract ideal weight from current weight, subtract ideal height from current height, subtract ideal BMI from current BMI, weight dissatisfaction, height dissatisfaction, body-shape dissatisfaction, and mean value of EAT-26, OSIQ, STAI, BDI, BITE among the groups.
Result :
1. BMI groups : Overweight group(BMI>25)=27(6.6%), Normal-weight group(19≤BMI≤25) = 278(67.8%), Underweight group(BMI<19) = 105(25.6%). The distribution rate of overweight group was lower than that of overweight group in western studies
2. In comparison to other groups, overweight group was significant difference of subtract ideal weight from current weight, subtract ideal height from current height. This results suggested that overweight group want greater body-shape change than other groups. Overweight group was significantly shorter than underweight group. There were no significance in ideal height among the groups.
3. Overweight group and normal-weight group were significantly higher weight dissatisfaction than underweight group. There was no significance in height dissatisfaction, body-image dissatisfaction among the three groups. All groups showed higher weight, height dissatisfaction and body-shape dissatisfaction except weight dissatisfaction of underweight group.
4. In comparison overweight group to other groups by mean difference of each scale, There was significant difference in superior adjustment subscale of the OSIQ and symptom subscale of the BITE between overweight group and other groups. There was also significant difference in symptom severity subscale of the BITE between overweight group and underweight group. There was no significant difference of EAT-26, STAI, BDI, other subscales of OSIQ among the groups. This results suggested that overweight group may be have binge-eating behavior and have poor coping system.
Conclusion : These results suggest that overweight group want greater body-shape change than other groups, overweight group may be have binge-eating behavior and have poor coping system.
