The purpose of this study was to investigate the needs related to infants, family, community and other education of mothers who have handicapped infant. 254 parents subjects whose infants were attending 28 institutes for handicapped infant in Seoul were used for the study. The Family Interest Survey devised by Cripe and Bricker(1990) was used after translating into Korean. Results were as follows;
The needs for infants relating were high in three areas; first, needs for access to information(change, favorite activities, talents, desires for infants; resources and programs needed for infants; disorder levels and disorders for infants; how to play and talk with infants), second, needs for participation in activities(planning for supports and programs in future; manage to behavior; teaching), third, needs for official or unofficial supports(communication with teachers and experts on infant's programs).
The needs for family relating were high in supports for mother herself, infant's family, and spouse.
The needs for community relating were high in information about daycare centers and preschools, medical support, use of toys and adaptive equipments, and leisure activities of infants.
Other needs were as follows; mothers who have infants with mental retardation had needs about support for group-home, educational program during vacation, supports from government; mothers who have infants with emotional disorders wanted to have volunteers who are able to help infant's maladaptive behavior and know method of language teaching; mothers who have infants with auditory impairment had high needs about strength and weakness of inclusion education, purchasing procedures and adaptiveness for hearing aid, and reliability for audiometry.
It is suggested following method of education for mothers ; individual counseling for infants relating contents, lecture and consultation for inter-family of disorder infant in family relating contents, lecture for community relating contents, and consultation and lecture for inter-family of disorder infant.
