The purpose of this study was to find out varied services in the community which can support the integration of the handicapped, and to draw up the pIan for their effective use.
The contents of this study were social, and cultural conditions of the community, actual conditions and problems on the use of the community services by the special education facilities, actual conditions and problems on the use of the community services by the handicapped, community services which can support the integration of the handicapped, and the pIan for effective uses of the community services.
The methods of this study were questionnaire, interview, reviewing the related literatures and case-finding.
The results of this study were as follows.
First, in the Kang-Book district, there were 3 special schools, 3 early education facilities, and 12 special classes for 774 students who have various kinds of handicaps. based on this context, the Kang-Book district demands various types and levels of services to satisfy many handicapped students' needs, but the community did not meet them
Second, special education facilities in the Kang-Book district have very negative relations with the community. and the use of the community services were restrictive, and the main reason of these problems was special eduction teachers' lacking in information about the communiy services.
Third, handicapped students have negative relations with the community and were not using the community services positively, and the reasons of these problems were parents' lacking in concern and information about the communiy services.
Fourth, there were some services that handicapped students can use in the commuity, but because most of these services were not only for the handicapped but for both the handicapped and normal persons, parents' and teachers' new recognition and efforts for active use of the community services are needed.
Fifth, there were some problems to be solved for better use of community services, and their alternatives are as follows;
First, alternatives on the problem to collect information about the community services are needed: assessment of service needs, use of the community volunteers, use of the community information media, connection with representative service, and public information to the community.
Second, alternatives on the problem of integrative management of the community services are needed: making service map, putting a system of "a teacher in charge of the community", installating "data base" of the community services.
Third, alternatives on the problem to support and cooperate with service agencies of the community are needed: mutual visit between the special education facilities and the community service agencies, participation in special school's lesson, teaching practice at special education facilities, offering guidebooks about special education, recommandation of special education related seminars.
Fourth, alternatives on the problem of parents education are needed: induce parents to participate in the community programs, parents education about community recognition, practical and functional parents education, such as computer education.
Based on the results,
First, it is need to understand "special education related services" as more comprehensively.
Second, parents' and teachers' concern about the community and active participation in the community services are very important.
Third, every activitiy to support the handicapped students should be concentrated upon as small community as possible.
Fourth, computer education to parents and teachers is necessary.
Fifth, it is very important to make specific and concrete plans for effective use of the community services
