This study primarily concerns with the improvement of composition ability through the three-steps of Dicto-comp exercises, centering on high school students. The multimate goal of English writing is to write what the students want to express correctly in English. Thus, the aim of this experimental study is testifying whether this Dicto-comp can improve their composition ability and reform the lesson plans.
Chapter one deals with the introduction of this study.
Chapter two reviews the concepts, procedures and types of dictation, and the relations between composition and dictation. We deals with the concepts, teaching methods, test and the examples of Dicto-comp.
Chapter three is devided to the presentation of the hypothesis underlying this study. Three-steps-partial Dict-comp(1~2 steps) and complete Dicto-comp(3 step)-of Dicto-comp exercises were administered to 100 high school students in two groups. Chapter four discusses the basic statistical analysis of the results such as mean, standard deviation, correlation of the two groups of subjects. It also proves the hypothesis set up in chapter three.
Chapter five summarizes the main points of the study and discusses their significance. It contains the suggestion and recommendation for the reliable language teaching and learning method in Korea.
In conclusion, it can be stated that the use of Dicto-comp helps increase the motivation giving rise to the improvement of composition ability. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers in high schools positively make use of Dicto-comp as a teaching method for improving composition ability.
