PROBLEM
The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences of the way of thinking and the beliefs between normal students and maladjusted students.
According to Ellis' theory, the human maladaptive behaviors are caused by irrational beliefs. The hypothesis of the study is that the maladjustment students have more irrational beliefs than normal students.
METHOD
The subject in this study were 77 normal and 56 malajusted students.
They were selected from 330 boys and 290 girls of middle school in Kong ju through The Short Form MMPI.
To these two groups, Personal Beliefs Inventroy revised from Par's Questionnaire was administered, Which was developed from following tests-Personal Inventroy by Hartman, Rational Scale by Ellis, Adult Irrational Idea Inventory by Fox and Davies, Self Inventory by Pluchick and Test of Irrational Idea by Laughridge.
Personal Beliefs Inventory is consisted of 99 items, nine items for each belief respectively.
RESULTS
According to th results of testing it can be said that the differnce between the total scores of maladaptive group and of normal group is significant at 1 per cent level.
In subscale 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9, the difference is between two groups is significant at 1 per cent level, In subscale 3 at 5 per cent level, and in subscale 10, 11 non - significant.
It was proved that maladaptive group has a more II logical, irrational tendency than normal group.
CONCLUSION
On the grounds of the results, the conclusions can be made as following:
1. The maldjustment students has more irrational beliefs than normal group. In concreteness, maladjustment students has a greater expectation for affection and recognition from others considers the punishment of deliqencies more sincerely than normal students. And the characteristics of maladjustment, depdency on others, pasr-deterministic way of thought, external and evasive tendency for the bad things.
2. Maladjusted students show more maladaptive behavior by keeping such irrational beliefs than students in normal students.
