The purpose of this study was to identify the differences of social competence according to sex and for home environment to effect social competence. The subjects of this study were 238 kindergarten children(126boys and 112girls) and their mothers and teachers in the city of Taegu. The instruments of measurement were home environmental scale and social competency scale. T-test, multiple regression, one way ANOVA and Scheff'e-test were conducted for the data analysis.
The major findings of this study were as follows:
First, girls' home environment is better than boys' both in the 'social interest and participation', and in the 'social cooperation'.
Second, subvariables of home environment, that is, 'income level of the home', promotion of social maturity' and 'breadth of experience' effect 'social interest and participation'
However this study had some limits, the following aspects should be considered in future research.
First, this study required only one person to answer the questionnaire.
However, to remove subjectivity, it may be nacessaryfor various persons to answer the questionnaire.
Second, it may be in need of standized scale of child's home environment and social competence.
Third, this study use sex and home environment as the variable for social competence. However, social competence is composed with composition, so it may be nacessary to investigate various factors.
