This study aims to investigate the relation between the conjugal relationship, and the health and academic achievement of children, and also to reveal their differences among various regional groups. The hypotheses of this study are as follows;
1-1) Children group who live in a family of good marital relationship would have better physical health condition than theother group who live in a family of bad marital relationship.
1-2) Children group who live in a family of good marital relationship would have better mental health condition than the other group who live in a family of bad marital relationship.
1-3) Children group who live in a family of good marital relationship would have better general health condition than the other group who live in a family of bad marital relationship.
2. Children group who live in a family of good marital relationship would get higher school records than the other group who live in a family of bad marital relationship. 3.There would be the differences of marital relationship, children's general health and school records among various regional groups.
The period collecting data to verify these hypotheses is from July 16 of 1991 to July 20 of 1991. I selected a sample in five districts The sample was 236 children and their mothers. They were 26 from Kangnam in seoul, 54 from Kangbuk in Seoul, 60 from A area of kwangmyeong in Kyeonggi-do, 53 from B area of Kwangmyeong and 43 from C area of Kwangmyeong in Kyeonggi-do.
The questionares responded by the subjects are Health Investigation Table for children and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale for mothers For the health investigation, Cornell Medical Index of short form by Nam, ho-chang was used, and for the marital relationship, Spanier's Dyadic Adjusteent Scale was used.
Children's group divided into two groups; one above the average marital relationship record and the other below the average of marital relationship record.
In order to investigate whether there were the differences of physical health, mental health, general health condition and school record between two groups, T-test was used. Also in order to verify deferences among the five regional areas, ANOVA was used.
As the results of these verification, all of the above hypotheses were supported And as an additional analysis, I calculated the Pearson Correlation Coefficient to investigate the correltion among variables such as parents' education, family income, children뭩 health, and their school records.
As a results of this study, I could conclude that the children's group who live in a family of good marital relationship are healthier than the other, and the former gets higher school records.
From the results, conjugal relationship is of significance for the children. A good marital relationship plays an important role in turns of their physical and mental health or school records.
