The main purpose of this study is (ⅰ) to analyze the relationships between metacognition level and problem solving ability of elementary students, and (ⅱ) to find the basic resource of helfing the children who have the lower level of problem solving ability.
In order to achieve the aims of the study effectively, the research hypotheses were stated as follows :
【 hypothesis Ⅰ】 There will be a positive relationship between metacognitive ability and problem solving ability.
Ⅰ - 1 There will be a positive relationship between metacognitive knowledge and problem solving ability.
Ⅰ - 2 There will be a positive relationship between metacognitive self-regulation and problem solving ability.
【hypothesis Ⅱ】 Student's metacognitive self-regulation will be have more effect than metacognitive knowledge on problem solving ability.
【hypothesis Ⅲ】 Significant differences will be find between high group children and law group children in meta- tacognition level.
The samples used in this study were 178(male 91, female 87) 3th graed elementary school children in Chung Cheung province. The instruments used for the study sere IPSP's Problem Solving Inventory and Metacognitive Inventory by Zimmerman & Ponz and Swansom. In order to analyze collected data, pearson correlation analysis, partial correlation analysis and ANOlA analysis were used. All the statistical results of this study were produced by SPSS.
The rusult of the study were summarized as follows :
(1) Student's Metacognitive knowledge and hletacognitive self-regulation were positive correlation in problem solving ability in children. Metacognitive self-regulation were more strongly correlated than Metacognitive knowledge on problem solving ability.
(2) High group children in metacognition level were higher than law group children on problem solving ability .
