The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between self-esteem, sex role identity and career maturity among high school students.
To achieve this purpose, the following hypotheses were set forth;
< Hypothesis 1> :The Career Maturity levels seemed to be higher the high self-esteem groups than low self-esteem groups.
< Hypothesis 2> :The bisexuality group among sex role identity type seemed to show the highest career maturity levels.
< Hypothesis 3> :The bisexuality group among sex role identity type seemed to show the highest self esteem.
< Hypothesis 4> :The Career Maturity levels seemed to be higher an academic school girl than a business school girl, an academic school boy, a business school boy in turn.
The following instruments were administered to 286 male students and 356 female students of 1st grade high school in Seoul.
1. Self Esteem Inventory : Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Inventory (coopersmith,1967) was translated to measure self esteem. This inventory was consited of 25 items on evaluative attitudes toward the self in several domains.
2. Sex Role Identity Inventory : Jeong Jin Kyung's Sex Role Identity Inventory (Jeong Jin Kyung,1990) was used to measure sex role identity type.
3. Career Maturity Inventory-Attitude Scale : Crites Career Maturity Inventory (CMI-AS : Crites, 1978) was used to measure career maturity. This inventory was consisted of 50 items on occupational choice and work.
The data was analyzed by Spss computer program : Cronbach α, Mean, Standard Deviation, Frequency, pearson'r correalation, one-way ANOVA Scheffe's test.
The result of this study were as follows :
1. The Career Maturity levels are higher the high self-esteem groups than low self-esteem groups in all groups.
The correlation coefficients between self-esteem scale and career maturity wrer r=.11 - r=.21 (p<.05)
The correlation coefficients between self-esteem and career maturity is the highest in case of academic school.
2. The bisexuality group among sex role identity type is not higher all groups. There were no significant differences in career maturity levels among sex role identity type.
3. The bisexuality group among sex role identity type is higher the high self-esteem group than low self-esteem groups.
4. The career maturity levels is higher an academic school girl than a business school girl, a business school boy, an academic school boy.
