I. Introduction
The purpose of this study is to investigate the cause of dropping -out in the air and correspondence high school(ACHS).
This study also has the purpose to promote the efficiency of education in the ACHS by finding out an educational method to prevent the dropping-out.
A theoretical study preceded practical research. It proved that many students in the ACHS dropped out. I examined the preceding researches about the characteristics, the cause and the prevention of dropping -out. In addition, the regulations about the dropping-out and the change in the number of an annual dropouts have been examined in the introduction of this study.
II. Practical Research and Its Results
To investigate the realities of dropouts, I selected the ACHS attached Kumi High School, and I referred to the records about students who came in and out of the school from 1984 to 1990, and the records about the students' school lives from 1988 to 1990.
I found 346 students who had dropped out of this school from 1988 to 1990.
The questionaires I gave to them was composed of 18 items containing questions about individual character, domestic surroundings and their opinions of dropping-out. The number of respondents was 107. The statistical data were analyzed by one-hundredth part percentage and α²-test.
The findings of the research showed as follows:
1) The rate of dropouts is gradually decreased, but it is high. That of boy students is higher than that of girl students.
The rate of dropouts is very high in the first grade
2) The rate of dropouts is especially high among the ACHS students who graduated from their junior high schools long ago and whose records of junior high schools were bad.
3) A considerable number of dropouts don't have both parents(28.6%) and most of the dropouts' parents were less educated and their socio-economic status were low. But, domastic surroundings don't make directly drop-out.
4) The main causes of the dropping-out are 'sunday work'(44.9%), and `the lack of basic scholastic ability'(35.5% ).
5) The most of students who had dropped out regrets to have dropped out, but they don't have study how to cope with the situation. Thus they are swayed by a feeling of inferiority.
III.Conclusion
In view of the above findings, this study concluded as follows:
1) The ACHS students must make an earnest effort to adapt themselves to school lives in the first grade.
2) Their textbooks must be revised to be suitable for their learning abilities.
By doing so, they will be able to cultivate their basic scholastic abilities.
3) We should make ACHS cooperate with the students' homes and their work places and should understand ACHS students correctly.
4) ACHS should have the qualified teachers and counsellors.
5) We need prepare proper methods for the inducement of freshmen and for the relief of dropouts.
