1980年代 패션에 나타난 포스트 모더니즘에 關한 硏究

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인간의 모든 창작활동, 즉 순수예술과 실용예술을 포함한 예술작품에 대하여 많은 연구가 되어왔다. 그리고 이런 작품에 대한 체계적 설명을 가능하게 하는 양식은 예술사의 개념이나 현상파악에 유용한 도구로 사용되고 있다. 이러한 양식은 복식을 예술사적인 측면으로 이해할 때 복식의 현상이나 개념 파악에 기본적인 지침을 제공하는 것이다.
본 연구에서는 비교 미학적 선행연구와 미학자 Weitz의 예술이론(열린 개념)을 토대로 복식을 예술의 한 쟝르로 규명하고 이러한 예술성의 전제하에 최근에 그 개념이 정리되어 가고 있는 건축의 포스트 모더니즘적 개념을 바탕으로 1980년대 패션의 특징을 고찰하였다.
본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 현대 건축에서 포스트 모더니즘의 내적 의미와 외적 형식을 분석하여 이해하고 둘째, 1980년대 패션의 일반적 경향을 고찰하므로써 패션에 나타난 포스트 모더니즘의 내적 의미와 외적 형식을 분석 파악하며 세째, 건축의 포스트 모더니즘적 특성을 이해하므로써 한 시대의 예술 양식의 유사성을 통찰하고자 하였다.
이러한 목적에 따라서 본 연구에서는 첫째, 복식을 예술의 한 쟝르로 건축과 비교하기 위해 양식개념과 예술이론 및 포스트 모더니즘적 경향에 대하여 문헌을 중심으로 살펴보고 둘째, 문헌 연구에서 제시된 포스트 모더니즘 경향이 실제로 어떻게 나타나는지 검토하기 위한 실증적 연구로서 1980년대 미국 Vogue지로부터 자료를 뽑아 기술적 내용 분석을 한 절충적 연구방법을 사용하였다.
건축에서의 포스트 모더니즘은 역사적 의장을 도입하는 역사성, 각 민족의 고유한 요소를 나타내거나 비슷하게 위장하는 일종의 토속성과 인간의 감정을 표현하고 의사를 전달하기 위한 상징성 및 전위성이라고 할 수 있다.
이와같은 건축의 포스트 모더니즘의 양식적 특성을 토대로 1980년대 패션을 분석한 결과 복식에서의 포스트 모더니즘의 경향을 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 모더니즘의 몰 역사성에 반발한 역사적인 요소의 도입과 절충이다. 이것은 역사의 회고나 재현이라기 보다는 역사적인 모든 요소들을 임의적으로 조립, 절충하므로써 양식의 유회를 즐기고자 하는 대중, 즉 인간의 욕구를 충족시키려는데서 오는 경향이므로 일종의 반 역사적인 역사주의라고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 역사적인 요소인 장식성, 낭만성, 훼미니즘, 클래씨시즘, 아방가르드 등 모든 것이 다양하게 복합적으로 나타난다고 할 수 있다.
둘째, 토착적이고 민속적인 요소의 도입 및 절충이다. 서구 문화의 국제적인 지배로인한 국제화된 모더니즘으로 인해 무시되어 왔던 민속복이나 소외된 지역의 복식형태의 도입인데 주로 동양이나 아프리카, 혹은 구미지역 전통복식의 재해석을 통하여 신비적이며 고유한 이미지를 존중하는 원시성이나 인간 본능에의 향유라 할 수 있다.
셋째, 상징적이며 전위적인 방법으로 모더니즘의 단순미 지향성의 무미건조한 인간성 외면에 대한 반발로 나타난 유기적, 자연 지향적인 것으로 인간을 포함한 모든 자연의 이미지를 상징적으로 나타내거나 인간의 배설하고자 하는 욕구를 전위적으로 표현한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 상징성과 전위성은 대중문화적 현상과 현실, 환상을 혼합하는 허구적인 표현으로 초현실주의적 패션, 펑크 패션, 팝 패션, 자연주의 패션등으로 다양하게 나타났다. 결국 이러한 다양한 가치들이 상이하고 복잡하게 나타나므로써 다원주의, 복합주의, 절충주의 등으로 표현될 수 있다.
이러한 다양화는 1차적 자료인 Voge지에 나타났듯이 1980년대 경향인 포스트 모더니즘이 모더니즘과 공존하는 상태로 이들 사이에는 명확한 시대적 경계선이 없고 완전히 단절되지도 않으므로 포스트 모더니즘은 모더니즘을 벗어난 탈 모더니즘이 아니고 서로 병행하며 포용하는 관계라고 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The concept of style is a useful tool to comprehend the characteristics of fashion as an art. By the benetit of Weitz's concept of open art, that is cultural consistency, the concept and characteriaztion of Post Modernism in Architecture can be compared with those of fashion in 1980's. The purpose of this study is to comprehend the internal meaning and the external form of Post-Modernism in Architecture ; to comprehend the internal meaning and the external form of Post-Modernism in Fashion ; to comprehend the internal meaning and the external form of Post-Modernism in 1980's Fashion by analyzing the general trend in Vogue; to discern the resemblance of styles in contemporary art : Architecture and Fashion.
For this purpose, documentary studies about Post-Modernism in Architecture as a frame work of this research were preceded and then objective studies about Post-Modernism in 1980's Fashion were analyzed based on documentary as well as empirical the characteristics of Post-Modernism in Architecture.
For empirical data, photographs and critics about fashion during 1980's were collected from Vogue fashion magazine.
The results are as follows :
The concept and characterization of Post-Modernism depicted Architecture are summarised as 1) Historicism 2) Vernacularism, and 3) Symbolism and Avant-gard with manner of eclectic and pluralistic expression.
Based on these internal meaning of Post-Modernism in Architecture, Post-Modernism in Fashion could be concluded as 1) Historicism including revival of all historical elements of costume such as Greek, Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo and 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's style; 2) Vernacularism characterized by folklore and ethnic look emphasizing each nation's traditional costume; 3) Symbolism and Avant-gard depicted by metaphoric manner such as surrealism of fashion, punk style, pop fashion and ecology of fashion.
In Historicism the historic elements are used eclectically so that it effaces history, being the random cannibalization of all the style.
Vernacularism is using all the elements of the third worlds' conventional style, especially from Asia and Africa as well as of conservatism in Europe and America.
Symbolism is expressing metaphorically nature and human's excremental emotions which is visualized as the transmitting media of meaning, such as resistance to the established value and ideology.
Consequently, Post-Modernism's aim seems to "play down the technical aspects and emphasize the human factor".
