The purpose of this study is to increase the supply of day care services by providing a basic resource on employer-supported day care service which can promote employers' understanding on it and can help the government to plan an effective policy for expansion of employer-supported day care service.
The subjects of this study are 14centers in all day care service operation that had been identified by Ministry of Labour in Seoul and 243 parent employees using the day care service. The survey population included all 15 centers, but out of the 15 centers, 14 centers were only participated in the survey and responded. Out of the 404 parent employees, percent of response was 60.2 %, because 50 parents did not respond and 111 parents did not participate in the survey according to their official reasons and personal reasons.
Two questionnaires were developed to be surveyed ; one questionnaire was designed for use with managers of the centers based on Perry's questionnaire. Another questionnaire was designed for parents based on the Perry's questionnaire, questionnaire of Korean Women's Development Institute and a questionnaire of child development with advices of experts in child study field.
The results of this study are as follows ;
1. It is identified that the employer-supported day care center operation gives the unique benefits to employer, which are enhanced recruitment, lower job turn over, a more improved working attitude of the users of the centers and an increase of productivity through the managers' and the parents' perceptions.
2. It is identified that the employer-supported day care service gives various benefits to a parent They are promotion of a patent's psychic stability by releasing from the child care and work conflicts and stress, helping child care in safety and education, the lower cost of child care, and the improvement of a parent-child relationship through the parents' perceptions.
3. It is identified that the child can develop properly, socially, intellectually, emotionally through the parents' perceptions.
On the basis of these results, it is identified that not only employers can benefit in many ways of management by providing day care service for working parent employees but also parents and their children can benefit in various aspects by using the service.
