친구집단은 아동이 사회에 적응하며 사회화를 이룩하는데 영향을 미친다.
아동들은 또래에 의한 수용과 상호적인 교우관계를 맺는 정도에 따라 여러 가지 행동상의, 사회적, 인지적, 차이를 보이게 된다. 본 연구에서는 아동의 성(性)과 수용도에 따라 교우관계의 질, 교유관계 만족도, 외로움을 어떻게 다르게 지각하고 있는지 알아보고자 하였다.
이러한 목적에 의해 본 연구에서는 다음과 같이 연구문제를 설정하였다.
1. 아동의 성(性)과 수용도에 따라 상호적인 교우관계는 차이가 있는가?
2. 아동의 성(性)과 수용도에 따라 교우관계 질은 어떠한가?
3. 아동의 성(性)과 수용도, 교우관계 질에 따라 교우관계의 만족도는 어떠한가?
4. 아동의 성(性)과 수용도, 교우관계 질에 따라 아동이 느끼는 외로움은 어떠한가?
본 연구는 국민학교 학생 523명을 대상으로 하였으며, 측정도구는 수용도 측정을 위한roster-and-rating 사회측정 평정척도와 교우관계질, 교우관계 만족도, 아동이 느끼는 외로움을 측정하기 위해 각각 관련된 질문지를 사용하였다.
본 연구에서 수집된 자료의 통계분석은 SAS 프로그램을 이용하여 χ²검증, 변량분석, Duncan검증, t-test, 중다회귀분석, 주성분분석을 실시하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 아동은 상호적인 교우관계 유무에 있어서 성차는 나타나지 않았고, 수용도에 따라서는 차이를 나타내었다. 즉 높은 수용을 받은 아동, 중간 수용, 낮은 수용순으로 나타났다.
둘째, 아동의 성(性)과 수용도에 따라서 교우관계 질을 다르게 인식하고 있었다. 즉 여아가 남아보다 인정과 관심, 도움과 지도, 친밀한 의사교환에서 더 높게 인식하고 있었고, 수용도에 따라서는 인정과 관심, 도움과 지도, 교제와 오락, 친밀한 의사교환에서 높은 수용을 받은 아동들이 더 높게 인식하고 있었다.
셋째, 상호적인 교우관계를 맺고 있는 아동이 그들의 교우관계에 더 만족하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 성(性)의 주효과와 성(性)과 수용도의 상호작용 효과는 나타나지 않았고, 수용도에 따라서는 높은 수용을 받은 아동이 그들의 교우관계에 더 만족하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고, 교제와 오락이 교우관계 만족도를 가장 잘 설명해 주는 변인으로 나타났다.
넷째, 상호적인 교우관계를 맺고 있지 않은 아동이 외로움을 더 많이 느끼고 있었다. 성(性)의 주효과와 성(性)과 수용도의 상호작용 효과는 나타나지 않았고, 수용도에 따라서는 낮은 수용을 받은 아동이 외로움을 더 많이 느끼고 있었다. 그리고, 갈등과 불신이 아동의 외로움을 가장 잘 설명해 주는 변인으로 나타났다.

Peer group has an effect on children's social adjustment and socialization. The existence of important behavioral and social-cognitive differences between children involved in mutual friendships and children without mutual friendships.
One aim of this study was to examine the level of acceptance and gender differences in the prevalence of mutual friendship. A second aim of this study was examine the level of acceptance and gender differences in the quality of children's friendship. A third aim of this study was to examine how the satisfaction they expressed with their best friendship in the level of acceptance, gender, and friendship quality. A fourth aim of this study was to examine how the children's feelings of loneliness in the level of acceptance, gender, and friendship quality.
The subjects for this study were 523 children, fourth grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, two public elementary schools.
The materials used for this study were a roster-and rating sociometric procedure to assess children's level of acceptance, Freindship Quality Questionnaire, two questions to assess children's satisfaction with their friendship, and three questions to assess children's feelings of loneliness.
The results were as follows:
1. The mutual friendships were not found in the children's gender, whereas 76.5% of high-accepted children, 57.9% of average-accepted children, and only 34.9% of low-accepted children had mutual friendship.
2. The friendship quality was found in the children's gender and the level of acceptance. Girls did report more validation and caring, more help and guidance, and more intimate exchange in their friendships than the Boys. High-accepted childrens reported more validation and caring, more help and guidance, more companionship and recreation, and more intimate exchange in their friendships than both average-accepted and low-accepted children.
3. Children with mutual friendships expressed high satisfaction with these relationships. The main effect for gender and the Gender×Level of Acceptance interaction were not significant. High-accepted children expressed high satisfaction with these relationships than both average-accepted and low-accepted children. The most influential factor on friendship satisfaction was the companionship and recreation.
4. Children without mutual friendships felt more loneliness than children with mutual friendships. The main effect for gender and the Gender×Level of Acceptance interaction were not significant. Low-accepted children felt more loneliness than both high-accepted and average-accepted children. The most influential factor on loneliness was the conflict and betrayal.
